For anyone who owns Indy pants: how thick is the material?

I recently bought some cavalry twill to make some pants and it is kind of thin. I am still gonna make the pants because I bought a lot of fabric, just wondering. I have never seen cavalry twill before, I am comparing it to the material khakis are made of...

I appreciate any input!

I have a pair of Indy trousers from Todd's costumes and subsequently sourced some cavalry twill to have other pairs made.

Comparing the cavalry twill to cotton khaki's is kind of apples to oranges. The actual thickness of the fabric isn't significantly different, however because the cavalry twill is wool the overall weight of the fabric is pretty heavier.

When I sourced the material, I didn't do anything special. I looked around online until I found a source labeled cavalry twill that had a color similar to what I wanted for Indy trousers. When I received the material it compared favorably to the material of my Todd's trousers and he spent considerable time sourcing the material for his to be as close to the original as possible.

If you bought material labeled cavalry twill, I'm sure you're in good shape.

And remember that pants can be lined down to the knee to add some weight and drape.

I highly recommend having that lining, at least the mid-thigh. I find cavalry twill wool to be a bit itchy without it.

After a couple of sessions of walking I can say I think the Cavalry Twill is not what it should be. It started wearing out between thr thighs (a problem I have with most pants).

And it is not itchy at all compared to my other woolen pants...

As a bloke who does squats too much, I entirely get the between the legs fabric wear-thing...It's common on my pants to wear out there...The Todds Indy pants I have aren't so bad, since the seam is lower down, and doesn't get rubbed when walking...So maybe lower the seam a touch? Might help with the wear a little...Cavalry Twill isn't the most dense fabric though...And won't hold up any better than most other wool fabrics...Chinos and Jeans are always going to hold up longer..

Thanks for the idea! I also definitely have this problem an all my pants, it's driving me crazy.... I was just expecting cavalry twill to be this hard wearing, friction resistant fabric... I wouldn't expect to get dragged behind a truck, but I thought for every day wear it'd be indestructible....

Yeah, that’s a reasonable assumption considering they’re “Indy pants”, but actually, cavalry twill is a rather “high end” fabric, used for comfort and look, rather than the cheaper, but usually longer lasting fabrics with a more flat appearance.. twill is rather uneven, so it hides stains easier, making it rather useful for longer worn clothing, like older uniforms etc...
I’ve got two kinds of cavalry twill in my collection of Indy pants that are VERY different too.. one being the slightly more easily damaged Todd’s version, and the other, a denser, more even one.. so there’s variation even among the types of twill...

Hmmm, that is reassuring to say the least! I thought I might have bought something that was only advertised as 'cavalry twill'. I had expected this fabric to like 16 ounce cotton canvas, weight wise...

Hi, I have a few pairs of wested indy pants which I wear in everyday life . They're a great trouser which I found comfortable and durable. The cavalry twill is a medium weight fabric which is suitable for all seasons . I don't have squatters thighs and the loose fit style means I don't suffer with the 'thigh rubbing' issue. Cavalry twill has a unique drape and look to them ,as mentioned above they are a 'high end' material. Maybe not as 'tough' as denim jeans but a great fabric nonetheless.
