Pocket Bull finally used in defense...

Please excuse me but I am really angry at the moment. Man... When you work in weights and measures, the kinds of people you run into. Sheesh! When a known drug addict comes into a yard with a total BS story and wanting money out if it. He just wouldn't leave. Telling us that a bale of OCC landed on his friend 45 minutes ago (then he changes it to "this morning"). Basically my manager told him to get out and never come on the property and thats when he started to get alittle physical. Then he backed off but then insisted the story was true. Manager started to call the police then he started to leave but started to walk back begging. Then we, 4 of us, just told him we don't believe him and he realized that he could not win. So thats when one of the guys said bye bye to him and he got upset and charged at us. Well guess what I had in my hand? My trusty old Pocket Bull and when he caught sight of it he stopped dead. Then he pretend to grab a gun in the back of his sweat pants. Gun in sweat pants? Well at least the way his was wearing them it seemed unlikely. Really loose. I like to think that he was checking himself if anything came out when he saw the whip. Thank you for letting me post this and if it gets zapped, I understand. I had to let my angry out. Have a good one!
Best Regards,
Jun

Wow, that was bad energy. You take care now. That makes two times for the PocketBull for you. The first time was a pitbull, right?

Sounds like a bad problem. Its good that you were not injured in anyway at all. Sounds like a Kyle s. Pocket pull does a good job at a self defense weapon.
Kindest Regards

Where are you ITG with our Hollywood BLVR, pocket bullwhip story?
Great story man, that could have been a scary moment had he had a gun, I am glad to hear everything turned out good.

This also sounds exciting---certainly picqued my interest. So, what happened in Hollywood?

Remember, never bring a whip to a gun fight!
I substituted whip for knife in case you're wondering.

Paul remembered what Sean Connery said in The Untouchables. “Just like a ……, brought a knife to a gun fight.” Of course that was just before he was machine gunned down by the guy behind the guy with a knife.
I learned a lesson from that scene. With all the crazies out there it could just be a matter of time before you pull the whip on someone who won’t back down. I know that even with a pocket bull you are only going to get off one crack, maybe two before he is on you. My advice would be that you must be ready to defend yourself with more than just the whip.
I knew a guy at college who thought he was a kung fu master until he got his teeth punched in by someone who just walked through the Zen stuff and kicked his butt.
Sorry for the sermon but it is better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks

Oh my gawd!. I was berated, chastised and called ignorant plus a pouting, sissy because I expounded that same theory in another thread here on COW not long ago.
Maybe someone will figure out that a whip does not make a very good weapon. Hopefully before someone gets really hurt thinking that they have all the protection they need. Granted a whip makes an excellent deterent for dogs, but beyond that I don't think so.

Jerry,
LOL! Old wounds my friend. My only comment to the thread you made reference to is the context. The "pocket bullwhip" was not discussed in that old thread. I am just trying to clarify. Take it easy...

Jerry,
Was it Teddy Roosevelt that said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick?" Whomever it was, if that is incorrect, was right with one caveat. Always make sure you have the biggest stick around.

PS. You're sentiments from the earlier thread were right on in my opinion.

The fact of the matter is, Baphy used his whip, as a weapon, in a potentially dangerous real life situation. He may not of had to deploy it (just as most gun related defenses rarely have shots fired) but just the mere site of the whip caused the bad guy to rethink his motivation and move on. By re-reading the other thread you will find that I touched on the topic of the intimidation factor a whip has.
I'm very happy that you are okay, Baphy. Take care and be careful.

Yep, never bring a whip to a gun fight!
Sounds like calling the cops for backup is a good idea!

Nobody recycles where I live, for some reason. I recycle, though. Remember when I gave away all the scraps from my Noel Howard pants?
I'm trying to piece together what it is you do, Jun. Weights and measures; they're the ones who make sure gas stations are dispensing the proper amount of fuel, right? How does old corrugated cardboard come in?

Close. I am the dispatcher and operations manager at a recycling plant. We buy waste paper and non ferrous metals and CRV material as well.

I've gotta agree. I used to be a member of a karate club which divided it's training time between (not very useful) sport karate and (very useful) 'what would you do if' karate. Actually, we used to mix in all kinds of other stuff too, because the instructors regularly went off to train in other disciplines.
Anyway, point being: the self defence technique that sticks most in my mind, from those training sessions is this......run away. It's a technique that most people can master quickly, and it's stood me in good stead on more than one occasion.
Admittedly, a few times it hasn't been an option, but I can think of only one right now where the outcome was a fight. It was over in a couple of seconds and, for a nasty moment, I thought I'd killed the fella. In that situation everything happened so fast that any weapon would have been useless, except as means of getting myself arrested.

I would have to say that it is best to avoid conflict at all costs. The number of people that are armed today, including teenagers is alarming. By producing any type of weapon, you may force them to resort to a handgun if they are armed, even if they did not intend to. If they have you cornered and an attack is imminent, then you have a legal right to defend yourself, but use it as a last resort. By appearance alone, you thought that this person was a drug dealer. If in fact, he is a drug dealer, there is a very high probability that he was armed. Getting angry does not help, as you need to be able to think clearly. A hostile confrontation with a total stranger is not a test of manhood. He doesn't have to be bigger or stronger or able to beat you up. All he has to be able to do, is pull a trigger to be able to kill you. At the first sign of trouble, if at all possible, it is best to call the police. Dealing with someone like this is best left to professionals. Like the Sean Connery character several have quoted, I should know, I have been doing this for twenty five years.
