Collar shape

Greetings
Probably missed this in a thread, please forgive.
Is there a difference in the shape of a Raiders South America vs Cairo? I do see some difference on BK Relic Hunter site, but is it truly noticeable on screen? My eyes are not that good.
Thanks
Justin

You won't see any difference on the BK site because all of the pictures on there are of the South America. Here's a picture of the Cairo:

Compare that to the South America:

The South America collar is a bit pointier, but the overall difference isn't great. Your choice won't drastically alter the look of the jacket.

Thanks that helps. I guess I meant I could compare the BK site with pics here at COW where most seem to have the Cairo.
Take care.

Yeah, as for on screen, it's pretty tough to tell:

I think a lot of the COW members prefer the Cairo A. because of fond memories of the Cairo sequence (probably part of the same reason the SoC hat is so popular) and B. because the Tunisia sequence is where the striations are most visible, and the striated lambskin is one of the attractions of the Relic Hunter.

Don't forget that the scalloped pocket flaps are more exaggerated on the Hawaii jacket as well.

Honestly, I'd like to see a Relic Hunter jacket that meets the two collar shapes in the middle and calls it good. I swear, what I see on film is somewhere in between.

It's your question about BK jacket offerings collar shape, or about the collar shape on the RAIDERS movie jackets?
Because I can't reply if it's about other jacket maker offerings.
Let me know.-

Thanks again for the assistance. What I'm after is a South America version, my favorite sequence in ALL movies ever is the opening to Raiders. I'm getting a jacket from S & J, order #175 :D . I completely trust Diego with it, but I was curious if there was much descernable difference in the screen versions.

There is a discernable difference between the Raiders jackets on screen. Maybe not to the average viewer, but to the Indy fan who notices the differences and is looking for them. It's also the reason the jacket makers offer different versions of the Raiders jacket.

THIS! I agree with you 100%. I think the hero jacket (striations on the chest) collar is more pointed than the BK Cairo offering. I know my Nowak Raiders jacket that is based on the Hawaii jacket, has a more pointy collar but depending on angle in a picture it looks WAY more rounded. I'm still torn on which is more accurate ha!

Same jacket, same day.

it is generally believed that the Tunisia-Hero jacket was used during the set piece filming in Elstree Studios through the truck drag, and that they changed jackets for the South American-Hawaii sequence for continuity sake. (You can see the striations on the acket in the Raven Bar, as Marion grabs his lapel). It makes sense, as the movie was filmed sequentially, and for continuity's sake. The jacket was supposed to look 'newer' or less used because the South American scene is the opening sequence, but sequentially, it was the last outside scene filmed, as they went from Tunisia to Hawaii. SoC refers more to the hat, because the jacket was not used in SoC.

Yes, I know. When I said the "Cairo sequence" I meant the entire chunk of the movie when Indy's in Egypt. I mentioned the hat because, IMHO, the hat we see in the actual Cairo street fight scene (where he's not wearing the jacket, as you said) is very close to what we see in the whole rest of the movie, apart from the opening sequence. As far as I'm concerned, there's basically only two styles of Raiders hat: Egypt/Tibet sequence, and Peru sequence. Compare:

Really not surprising, given that Harrison was wearing the same hat throughout that that whole 2/3 of the movie, but I think it's worth pointing out that the difference between a SoC and a Well of the Souls or Truck chase hat are minimal.

Anyway, sorry to take us off track - I just wanted to clarify my position.

There’s evidence that the Hawaii/South American-style Jacket was used in some of the truck chase scenes in Egypt. A thread on another forum included detailed screenshot analysis, showing precisely when the Cairo and Hawaii/South America jackets were used in the desert chase.
