Has anybody used this stuff? Is it any good? As much as I want to get some Pecards, a 4oz bottle of lotion with shipping is going to set me back over 10 bucks. I can get and 8 oz. bottle of this Mr.Leather stuff at my local Bed Bath and Beyond for about $7, and it says it can be used on jackets. It appears to be the white hand lotion consistancy that the Pecards lotion is described as. Feedback?

Never heard of it. You should be able to purchase Lexol leather cleaner and condition at any auto parts store in your area. It works as well as the Pecards motorocycle leather lotion, in my opinion. Regards. Michaelson

So, in other words, you are willing to risk your $300.00 jacket to save
yourself 3 bucks?

Doesn't sound too smart to me.

You know Pecards works, and works every time, why on earth would
you ever want to risk a jacket that set you back all that money just to
try to save 3 lousy dollars?

It just doesn't make sense to me.

That would be like saving your whole life for a brand new Jaguar XK8 that set
you back like $50,000, and then taking it to Macco to get it fixed
if you get a dented fender on it.

Whoa, ease up there Flathead. You and I KNOW Pecards works, but he's never used it, so he's just going on our word. Have you ever used the product he's asked about? For all WE know, it could just BE Pecards, as they are subcontractors to a LOT of companies who bottle and sell their product under another companies name. Red Wing is one that comes to mind. Some of those products contain mink oils and other silicones that will
be very harmful to the leather over time.

I'm not trying to be harsh, I am just saying that a product, like Pecards,
that is endorsed here, and is VERY highly recommened by everyone, is
the product that I would use each and every time.

Its not worth trying to save only 3 dollars to ruin a 300 dollar jacket,
when there is a proven product to use.

Thats all I am saying. Why use something that may harm your
purchase, when you can get the real thing so cheaply?

Lets see, would I rather have a fake Indy jacket, sold at the Gap, that
is made out of vynil, for a cost of $250.00, or a real Indy jacket, made
by the man himself, for only a few dollars more?

I just wanted to tell Panama Tom not to risk his jacket just to try to save
3 bucks!!

I can not tell you how many pairs of leather boots I have "ruined" by
using things that claimed to be good for leather!! Mink oil might sound
like good stuff, but after prolonged use, it actually will start to rot the
leather, not protect it.

After finding this site, and you inparticular, I have since used only Pecards on
all my leather stuff, with absolutely fabulous results! I even brought
back a pair of boots that I SWORE were wrecked by using mink oil, and
they are darker now, but they are also alot softer too.

I would not use anything else, just like you have said all these years!!!

Your like the Yoda, or "Obi-Wan" of leather treatments!

Yoda? Well, someday I feel like him, age wise (and if you asked Indiana Jess, he'd say I LOOK like him ). I think we need to hear more about what is in the product Tom is asking. In the description, it sounds like a leather lotion, which is like Lexol OR Pecards leather lotion. Let's not be to hasty in our condemnation of a product. Yes, I eat, sleep and preach Pecards use....BUT, I also recommend using alternative products that are affordable and non-destructive to the leather (such as you mention in your post) that contain oils and the like that cause more damage than good to our items. If such can be found, why not? If there is a question, though, then Pecards is always a safe, pH balanced product that is more than worth it's cost. Regards. Michaelson

Leather_Loco used to post here and he once warned me that too much of a good thing can be harmful. He cited a case where he used too much Pecards Oil Conditioner on a pair of ankle boots and it made them droop around his ankles like an old pair of socks.

It's possible to over apply.

I was just asking for feedback - not a slapback! If nobody's heard about it, then I'll go with something that we all know works, but how do we know this stuff is not just as good or even the same as Pecards unless we ask?

How will you know if its not good? Very, very, easy. If you read the
"Ask Mr. Leather" section, you will see that Mr. Leather contains SILICONE!

It only took about 30 seconds to find this information from the Mr. Leather webpage.

You should never, ever use any silicone based product on your fine
leather goods. They are for people who care about a shine rather than
protecting the leather.

The silicone is also the reason why the Mr. Leather site says it will add
water proofing to all leathers. Thats because the silicone will clog up
all the natural pores of the leather, and it will no longer be able to
breath!

You asked, I answered. It was really easy to find this info. Make sure
you look at all products that you are thinking about putting on any leather
you actually care about.

See, saving a buck or three is not always the best route to take!!

Did I read what you said correctly? Are the leather care products at the Red Wing Shoe Store’s made by Pecards?
If this is correct it should make it a lot easier for me (and perhaps others) to get these products.

Well see, there you go. All I needed was the info on the product, so now I know not to go and waste money on it!
Being a lambskin jacket, I'm probably going to go the Lexol route, since I know I can get it around the corner and this site does suggest it.
So now we know - NO MR. LEATHER!! :evil:

I have used Lexol on my Wested Lamb ToD jacket for 4 years and it works great!
I recommend Lexol. As it has been said; you can find Lexol at most good auto parts stores and tack shops.
