Ok...This is not a bullwhip. But its a whip and I'm curious as to what the heck the thing is made out of.

The upcoming movie "the passion" has a flagellation sceen in it, and I was wondering what the heck the romans used to make a cat o nine tails out of? Leather Fall or rope?

I talked to Mr Morgan about this and he did not know. As a side note, it was exciting talking to this man, oh...before I forget, I bought a 10' natural tan bullwhip from him during our discourse. I don't have a digital camera, but I'll post pictures if I have an opprotunity. :D

You might want to ask Indy Magnoli, he's made one with lead balls on the end, so he might know sommin about it.

His replica has a wooden handle with leather "tails".

Here's the flagrum (or flagellum) that I made based on evidence from the Shroud of Turin:

The lead balls would have been slightly larger and rougher (more jagged). The handle is wood and the thongs are leather. It is believed that the whip used to scourge Christ had three thongs of varying lengths so the balls wouldn't bang into eachother. For more info go to the Christian Relics section of my website: http://www.indyprops.com

Kind regards,
Indy
