Creating A Bullet Hole...

If I were to create a bullet hole in the left arm of my Raiders jacket, and yes without actually shooting a German firearm into it. What would be the best way to get the screen accurate look of one? Any suggestions?

Put a block of wood inside the sleeve, secure it to a work table. Hammer and nail.

To really drill down into this....

In the movie they created the bullet hole using a squib (a tiny explosive inside the jacket that blew the hole outward) so to be entirely SA, that would be the best way to recreate the look.

In the real world, the bullet grazed Indy's arm (it did not penetrate his arm) so the hole in the jacket wouldn't necessarily be a round bullet hole, but would likely be more of an elongated hole from the bullet 'cutting' horizontally across the surface of the sleeve.

Here is a pretty good image of the bullet hole.

https://movie-screencaps.com/raiders-lost-ark-1981/58" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can see how the hole is "blown open" from the inside out.

Indiana Jeff

I love those screen caps .. they show you things you'd miss in a blink!

interestingly if you go to the truck drag sequence on the next page Indy has a hole in his pants as well .... Maybe thats connected (though i doubt it) to the Crystal Skull stunning gag of Indy slicing a hole in the seat of his pants and Harrison turning upto the premiere with a hole in his suit pants! ....

I've often wondered about recreating this myself. I have no problem distressing my jacket (as I did to my Wested) but I don't think I'm brave enough to put a hole in it. :o

Looking at the screen capture that’s a pretty big hole!

If I were going to recreate this I would create a flesh colored wound out of silicone that I would adhere to the inside of the jacket below the hole, along with some shirt material. Then paint fake blood where needed.
