I finally got a change to try my Gio Celeste 10 feet LC style bullwhip. It was the first time I have cracked it and I think the fourth time I have cracked any whip.

You are overstressing the whip a bit. Don't use so much force :whip:

Yup, I only realise how much force I use after I see the video of what I'm actually doing...

And I am also a beginner, this was the fourth time I have ever tried cracking a whip and the second time I have been even remotely successful. \:D/

I hope to get better, though I have limited time and space to practice. Space is the biggest problem, it's very hard to find nice, clean, grassy, accessible places where I am from.

Cheers,
Bear

Thank you! :TOH:

The area was large and surrounded by trees on one side and a concrete wall in the other. Perfect for a nice resounding crack!

Bear

Take your time. You will ge used to the whip. Watch some tutorials on YT and practise a lot. You will master basic moves in no time :whip:

Thank you! :TOH:

Youtube has already helped me a lot! The first time I tried cracking a whip I achieved nothing... not one crack...

I am so excited to be able to get any crack at all!

Cheers,
Bear

Sorry for the late post, how much did your whip cost? I can't seem to find prices on Celeste's website.

Hey, Dr. Jones! My whip was €560 + shipping. You have to enquire with Gio for a quote when you order.

I used to do the same thing when I was learning with my whips when they were new. I couldn't get it to sound as loud as videos I've watched online. It boils down to 2 things: 'break in' the whip and proper technique.

Once the whip is better 'worn' or 'seasoned' you will learn proper technique since the whip will crack without as much effort as it does now. The best way to soften it up is the video below sent to me by Robert Dante himself. Use the link for Pecards to condition the whip and use the technique in the video and you will notice the whip to start to crack with just a flick of the wrist. Do this now before you wear out the whip in the wrong places (like where the fall attaches) and have to send it back in to get rewrapped (like I had to!)

Thank you for the video and for the tips! :TOH:

I have since become a bit better. I can crack the whip without so much force. I try to crack it lighter and lighter, as far as force is concerned.

And I have also been treating it regularly with Pecard's, which was a bit hard to find inside the EU.

Bear

Just curious how often you’re Pecard-ing it? I was instructed not to over do it with my whip, once after 6 months of getting it. The fall gets done much more frequently. But what do I know.

I have done the entire whip twice since December, because it felt a bit dry. The fall before each use and the end near the fall when it seems to be dry.

That's about it, I guess. :-k

I DEFINITELY stopped running through falls once I started doing this as well.

Yep, the fall needs a lot of greasing and once lubricated it will increase it's lifetime tenfold.
