Alden Color Change...

I recently purchased a pair of Aldens that actually fit me and I love them to death although the one thing that bothers me is that compared to my ill fitting old pair, which now reside on the feet of my dear old dad, the color is just too red! The old pair are a nice dark brown through years of brown shoe polish which burnished them to a nice dark shade - as for my new ones they are a brownish red (but not quite the maroon look of the brick red ones). To remedy this I am attempting a color change treatment as follows:

1. Deglazer followed by Fiebings dark brown
2. Sealed with Brown Pecards
3. Polished with Meltonian Dark Brown polish.

I will post before / after pics whenever I actually get the solvents which are being shipped via ground shipping from the other coast :( So it may be awhile!

Look forward to seeing them! I'm sure you've seen this thread, but here's one way of darkening Aldens:

Oooh! Those are NOT Aldens in that thread! They're $40.00 J.Crew boots!
I did that with the open flame of a zippo lighter! DO NOT do that to your Aldens!
Michaelson will hunt me down and kill me.
In fact...I don't condone flaming any of your gear unless it's something you really want to do and can afford to try.
(a little late for disclaimers? I hope not. :D )

After this discussion about aging, I went back and looked at the opening scenes of ROTLA. After Indy comes out of the cave and gives Belloq his gun, there is a shot of Indy's boots.

The lighter/orangish color of the Alden's are still visible for the distance from the top of the boot to the bottom of the hooks.

I can spend the 12 to 16 weeks waiting on my Aldens to ponder the age/distress or not question -- more.

What do you mean still? Aldens weren't always orange, that at the top of the boot that you see might just be the wear and tear of a boot.

Ahhhh, you are so right Rabbit. Sorry, I remembered your process and just did a quick post without looking closely enough to see if it was the exact same item. My apologies for leading anyone astray.
