I ride motorcycles (no, not with sidecars, but Urals are super cool!) so I'm always on the lookout for good riding jackets. Indy jackets, while excellent for "adventuring" in, sometimes are not so great on bikes (because of the way they're made, the good-fitting ones have a tendency to ride up when you lean forward or lift your arms too far )

I've worn my fair share of leather and wax cotton jackets, but I came across something the other day and my jaw dropped:

What a jacket! If Indy had been traipsing around a little later (or even a little earlier, maybe) I'm sure he would have fit right into one of these bad boys. Unfortunately, they've been sold out for a while, and even if they weren't... that price tag

Anybody know anything similar? I've been seeing this stupid thing in my dreams! Can't stop picturing it with a Fed IV or Garrison or something on top!

That's pretty freaking sweet.

Belstaff Trailmaster is essentially the same design. And all are borrowed from the early barnstormer style jackets that were re-purposed for motorcycle riding.

Steve McQueen famously wore a similar one for motorbike riding. It's the classic non-leather bike jacket and a pretty common design in waxed cotton - Drizabone, Belstaff, Barbour and others have all made them in various forms. I have a black one by Drizabone, the Jacana model. It's not unlike an army field jacket, really. Not sure I can see Indy in one of these but it certainly ticks the adventurer style. My only problem with these jackets is I never carry anything to have any need for large billowy pockets like that.

It looks kind of cool, but it's a bit busy for my tastes. Still, it looks like a serious work jacket, and thick enough to make it a good riding jacket.

Reminds me of the jacket worn by Indy in the YIJC's during WW1 when he was an aerial photographer.

We could certainly reproduce this jacket for you in waxed cotton at around half the cost.

This website is killing me. I click on Gadzook's link and I find myself figuring out how to squeeze $899 out of my living expenses for something I didn't even know I wanted 10 minutes ago.

I believe they are "sold out", though.

I'm already having a hard time trying to decide if I order a "White Label" Magnoli Adventure jacket, or spend 300 bucks more just to have it in the color I REALLY want. It's hard for me to justify. Hey, so, reviving this thread a little (why bother cluttering things with a new one, right?)

Cold weather coming up and it gets cold on a bike! Anybody know where to get a good (warm lol) lookalike for the aforementioned Young Indy motorcycle courier jacket? It seems to be a 3/4 length leather coat with a (wool?) warm looking collar.

It sure is a good looking jacket. I bet Magnoli could whip one up for you. Otherwise, I think options are slim. I did a quick google search and turned up little.

In terms of warmth, leather isn't going to be your best bet. Not much of an insulator. That's why winter wear for Indy jackets involves variations on the Mystery of the Blues look.

You may be able to find a jacket with a liner that can be removed. Or you'll just have to layer.

Also a good point. Maybe that's why Indy preferred this jacket for cold weather.

Wow... that shot actually makes it look brown!

The M-65 Field Jacket has similar pockets and a similar collar as pictured in the Mulholland Master.
For cold weather motorcycle riding I picked up an M-65 Field Jacket in black and added a 2" black pistol belt.
An option I used was adding a black cotton vest over the jacket then attached the belt to the vest. (inspired by the opening sequence in GoldenEye)
If you want it warmer, there is a button-in M-65 liner option.
(liner is removed in the photos)

Jacket = $20 (Thrift store)
Vest = $20 (Ebay)
Pistol Belt $5 (Gun Show)
Liner = $10 (Flea Market)




I wear a neck gator, full face Shoei and deerskin gauntlet gloves.

Thanks Mulceber. Actually I'm glad I found it. I cycle to work and could do with a better waterproof jacket. Plus that waxed jacket looks way better than my current one. I'll be getting one of those as soon as!

It's not quite as snazzy as the other jackets in this thread but it's got armor inserts, always good for biking. Definitely NOT a winter jacket, though (get cold riding around at night and it's still August!!!)
