I'm interested in making a replica whip for display. Any suggestions for a good kit or source for one?

I'm no whip expert, so please take my advice with as many grains of salt as you'd like.

If you simply want to make a whip for the hobby of it, go for it. Some members here have done it for the sense of accomplishment and/or their first steps into the art and enterprise of whipmaking. I have no idea where to tell you to start.

If you're strictly looking to save a buck toward a cosplay or wall-hanger movie replica...dollar for dollar, headache for headache, I think you're better off looking into one of the budget Indy whip options out there:

http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/bullwhi ... p-521.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.toddscostumes.com/costumes/k ... bull-whip/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I may be missing a vendor or two in case that's the direction you wanna go.

Thanks! Those may be perfect options. I'd like to try making one; like you said - I've no idea where to begin. I'd love to find a reasonable kit for the right type and size Indy whip.

There are a number of tutorials here and online, but I don't know if any kits for making whips.

If you reach out to some makers such as Blake Brunning, he may sell you a ready to make kit. Give it a try. What do you have to lose?

His site is trinitywhipco.

Like Jeff said, there are a ton of tutorials floating around.
A great place to start might be trying your hand at making a nylon whip.
Go get a spool of paracord (easily available online) and off you go.

I actually have one kicking around in a folder somewhere. If I find it, I'll send it your way.

Ask Blake though. I know he offered to cut me up the strands. Plenty of tutorials out there but you still need to get the strands cut right. Kangaroo hide is not cheap enough to mess up on if you are going for just one whip. But it's fun. Share some pics when you begin.

Thanks all! I'll reach out to him. I've heard it's expensive to get the kangaroo hide. I can't wait to try it on my own.
