About to bash a new Fed IV Deluxe. I know I want to permanently remove the liner. Do you recommend removing the liner first?

Thanks

If you are going to remove it anyways why not, it will not affect the bashing process, might make it easier so you can actually reach the felt from inside and not have a cloth in your way.

Yeah. Not a big deal. Easy to put back in if want to as well.

Ripped out the liner in my Fed and haven't looked back since.

i like the liners but not wild about the plastic. Here's what I do.

1. Remove the liner.

2. Take pair of scissors, start a whole and cut along the stitching.

3. Remove the plastic, then pull the perforated end along the stitching on the backside.

Great way to remove the plastic and keep the liner at the sane time.

I was hoping you'd say that. Thanks

You've just given me a way and a reason to save the lining if I decide I want it back. Not a fan of the plastic either. Thanks

With all my new Akubras, I used to remove the liners, clip away the plastic top piece, then re-install the liners.

Then I bought some nice replacement liners, pretty much the same quality, without the plastic. So I pull out the original liners, save them and swap in a blank unbranded liner. This way, I have the brand-new originals to put back in the hats if I ever want to sell 'em.

If you bash your Fed than change your mind and decide you don't like the shape, you're going to want to remove the liner so opening the crown and smoothing it back out before bashing again is easier without it getting in the way. :TOH:
