Wested Hero in Nubuck?

Post by giantthugee86 »

Someone posted this pic at the Raven of a Wested Raiders in nubuck. It looks like an even more SA accurate skin than lamb.

This is an amazing jacket. I never even considered nubuck before. Is there anything else you can tell us about it?

It's not my jacket. Someone originally posted it at the Indylounge. http://indylounge.proboards.com/thread/ ... ero-nubuck" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That's right. "Unfortunately we no longer offer the Hero in the Nubuck".

Nubuck is like a very short cut suede it is the outer of the skin sanded down, suede is the inner reverse, but usually a split.

Actually nubuck might be similar to novapelle, but with more of the surface sanded off.

Can you expand on this?

Nubuck is sort of the underside of suede? Like if I had a suede jacket and took it apart and inside out, it would be sort of like nubuck?

No, nubuck is leather with the shiny part sanded off.

Suede is the reverse side of leather, or the exposed split of leather with the shiny part taken off.

Thanks. That's what I was figuring you probably meant, but wanted to make sure.

I'd like to see more jackets in the nubuck. I suppose nubuck is sort of lightly pre-distressed in a way, by the way you explain. I think I want to get a TOD with larger pockets. I'm just not pleased with my Raiders shrunken lamb for some reason. I got it last August. I got the sleeves longer than I should have because I figured they would either shrink up, or I can just have them altered. But honestly, it feels like they have actually magically gotten longer somehow. And I never hung it after it got wet. I wore it until it dried.

This is a size 42, with 27 inch back and 26 inch arms. I'm 5'9" and it comes down just where I want it in the back. Like almost halfway down the back pocket of my pants. The arms could probably be taken in about a half inch. But as I said, it's only about a year old. I don't wear it much. Maybe it has some shrinking to do.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wish my jacket looked like that jacket.

Most nubuck shows marks pretty easily (which can often be rubbed away with your hand), which works well for an Indy jacket but less well for other things. It's a bit like a wet seal when rained on with very unpredictable drying impact. But it does look the business.

Thanks. I guess I just need to wear it more and let it grow on me.

I still wouldn't mind a nubuck TOD though. But I guess that is how this hobby goes. Once I start down the dark path of needing more than one of the same jacket(to a layman's eyes!) then I am setting myself up for either disappointment or obsessive compulsiveness. :[

But I like what was said above about nubuck. How it shows it's scratches, but can be rubbed out easily as well. I think I will shoot for a TOD in time for autumn. I like what I read about it being more fitted.

I'm sure a lot of you have seen this, but here is the description of nubuck from Wested's website, for easy reference.

Nubuck
Nubuck is a smooth finish, the skin is left looking almost like a waxy suede on the top and super smooth but unlike suede it has an additional waterproof coating for protection.
Skins we stock with this finish: Dark Brown Nubuck (Cowhide)

I emailed Wested and they said they can make any Indy jacket in nubuck, just need to put that in the custom order.

Nubuck does seem to give the jacket an aged, distressed look to it. Does it drape differently the lamb or goat? How is it on thickness?
