I ordered my Wested jacket last night.
Its a TOD dark brown goat. I got the following options:
cotton lining
anodized black buckles
press studs on storm flap
gussets under sleeves
sleeves slightly tapered

It should ship in 3 weeks. Thanks to Peter and Gerry for answering my rather long list of questions and checking the measurements. I'm a little nervous about ordering a custom jacket from across the ocean, but it sounds like they usually turn out OK. I guess the wait begins.

My Wested was my first international purchase too, and like you
I was nervous about it. Don't worry though, all will turn out fine
and you'll soon have a fine piece of craftsmanship in your hands.

I order from companies overseas all of the time. I have ordered a jacket from Barbour, some knives from France, my Fed from Australia, But I must say that my experience with Wested was the best.

I placed the order, then tried to forget about it. After three weeks, I sent off an email politely asking about the status, and received a quick response. Then, my jacket got caught up in Customs for three weeks -seriously, three weeks. And Peter and Gerry helped me get it out. The entire time they remained in contact through email, so I never worried. Even through tribulation, it was a great experience.

I'm not so much worried about ordering something from overseas, as I am about having something custom tailored without the tailor seeing me. But I sent Peter a rather thorough list of measurements (height, waist, diameter of big toe, etc), and described what I was looking for. It should turn out OK.
About how much are these jackets costing now? I just had $315 charged to my credit card, which was about $40 more than I was expecting (240+30shipping+about 10 for the gussets). Is this because the exhange rate has changed, or did I miss an extra charge?
I'm not really complaining, I just wasn't expecting it.

cknight,

It is thanks to the ever fluctuating value of good old American greenbacks.

When does Peter charge the credit card? When the order is placed, or when he is ready to ship?

I place my order on Wed., and the charge just showed up, so it must be when you order. Normally this would rub me the wrong way, but Wested is pretty well respected and I haven't heard of anyone getting ripped off, so I'm not really worried about it. I was just expecting another month or 2 before I had to pay for it.

I think that works better for me, because the funds will come directly out of my account, hence no finance charges. Thanks for the quick response.

He does charge it right away: money up front, I guess. But, don't worry, no one I have ever heard of has ever been disappointed with Peter, his workmanship, or his operation.
