Sweat band issue

Hey, Gang -

Has anyone here had the "reed" wear through the bottom of their sweat band on their hat? It has happened on one of my AB deluxes and it starting to wear thin on the other. I think Marc uses kangaroo which may be a factor. Not sure. No other hat here has that problem.

Anyway, I have gotten in line with Mr. Penman to address general repairs when my number comes up but wondering who else might have had this happen.

And mainly, is it even that much of an issue? I mean, now that the sweat is sewn in, is there any need for the reed (yes, it rhymes)?

Could I theoretically just slide it on out and be done with it?

Theoretically.

The only time I've heard of this happening is with Akubra hats that use a metal wire for the reeding. If the wire gets kinked and breaks it can poke out. Never heard of the sweatband wearing thin enough for the reed to be exposed.

I seem to recall reading here that the reed continues to serve a purpose even once the sweatband is installed.

Yep, here it is. http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?f ... hilit=reed" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
