Does anyone know if Wested ever got any dark leather with red/tan undertones?
Thanks for any info.

Every jacket I had from them had grey undertones. It's one of the reasons I switched to a Todds jacket -lovely dark colour with red undertones.

The best thing to do is to ask Rebecca at Wested. She is super helpfull and their customer service isn't to be compared to what it was. She really goes out of her way to help you. She will even distress a hide with sandpaper to see what it looks like.
Second, yes they do have a reddish undertone hide..or at least had. Its the dark brown thin lamb which I got on my temple wested. Even tho this is a 2008 - 2009 hide, I think they still source it. It's almsot the same undertones as the hero temple. Rusty light brown.

Just picked up a Hero in the Pre-Distressed Heavy Duty Lambskin and it's got very tan undertones. It was a bit of an experiment for me, and I actually love how it turned out - not at all SA leather for a Raiders jacket but a great fit and it has that classic leather smell and their excellent Hero Raiders cut.
On a related note, I have to back up Holt's comments about the great service. I'm in Chicago and I ordered a Hero with specific hide, back and sleeve measurements and I received it in 8 days
I mean, a custom fitted leather jacket in that short of time internationally, I was totally blown away. They have a great selection of different hides in all different weights and shades, and I had just an exceptional experience all around.
They sound like they have a lull in orders and now is a great time if you've been thinking about a Wested. I was really surprised by all the great new hide offerings. Check the Buying Guide and go all the way to the bottom where you can click on "click here to see our full range of leathers". Some pretty cool stuff.

It's funny because I have never received a jacket from them with grey undertones - they all seem to be tan or ruby undertones. I've been thinking of pulling the plug on a Captain America jacket they are offering - anyone have one of those? They look pretty nice on their site - not SA I think, but very very cool - and way less expensive than Aero.

I just received a ToD in shrunken lamb. I have yet to take any sand paper to it to tell about the undertones.
I will say this though, I was less than enthused about their customer service, or delivering on my specifications.
They got my vent all wrong, even though they had pictures, and the front of the jacket is clearly 2 different hides.
I still love the jacket, but I won't order another from them.

The jacket he wears at the end of Winter Soldier (in the cemetery scene) is absolutely made of the same leather that Wested calls "crispe"...same color too

Can you show us what your vent looks like? After the initial confusion with the vent on the first NH pattern ones they got it right. If it's slipped since then they should be told.
I have a friend I work with who's had about 3 of them in the last few years and they have all been identically, correctly, made.
The shrunken leather is a characterful leather, it's by default different from one skin to the next. I think they do mention this on their site. However, I would have thought they'd try and make the front panels match - kinda. Unless asked to particularly mismatch (I'd sometimes ask for crazy things like that
).

Here is my vent, and the front of my new jacket. Like I said, I still love my jacket, and am not horribly torn up about not being 100% screen accurate.

Yes, you're right, that vent is wrong.
Should look like this (washed goat btw):
The front has different grains, but it is the same colour which is good! Shrunken lamb really gets more interesting as it breaks in. You'll not notice after a while i'm sure.

I will let it get a good shower soon. Took some sandpaper to it, just inside on the bottom to see what color I got. No red tones. Looks almost exactly the same color as the jacket itself.
Vent bothers me some, but not enough to pitch a fit. I am going to let them know however.

Good choice on the black cotton inside. My one has the 'SA' nylon and I really don't like it at all!

Just did some more sandpaper work to mine. Definitely only has some "tan" undertones. Exactly matching the exterior, just a bit...distressed obviously.
Super glad I had the black lining.

Do you have any pictures of the tones?

I purchased one of Wested's first offerings in Horse Hide many years back (LC style). That jacket had a great deal of red undertones to it. Most beautiful leather, color, etc. Not an extremely true 'LC' cut and style (prior to their change of collar cuts, etc.), but a really beautiful jacket. I was sorry to let it go, but at the time I wanted a better 'LC' style, but I do miss that leather and the colors it had. W>

Ya I had a Wested Raiders a few years back that had great tan undertones. The next few jackets after that were all grey...

Just talked to Wested and they don't have any brown hides with tan/red undertones.

So that means they don't have the dark thin lambskin in stock I have on my temple jacket. Too bad as it is the most ''Indy skin'' I have seen when distressed....

Just to clarify, it's the "most Indy skin" YOU have seen when distressed. I however have seen US Wings and S&J jackets that distress beautifully.

Yes, you can safely say that Tibor
and yeah, out of all the USW jackets I have had, some of them distressed beautifully.
