Hi Guys!
Bought a Wested standard LC jacket last week and decide returning, the cowhide is more like a thin skin, after talked with customer service of Wested, they explained they take light cowhide because it close to the weight of original movie jacket which is made of Lambskin.
So I am thinking about order horsehide or heavy duty horsehide .
I appreciate if you could give me a opinion.
By the way, their customer service is quite good and honesty.

Don't have ant pics of my Wested Horsehide but it is a heavier leather. Not Aero stiff horsehide but a more lighter version.

The horsehide Wested uses is literally tough as nails. Am wearing mine for years now in all weather (from snowstorm to sandstorm) including several excavation expeditions and it only very slowly finally started to show traces of wear after making contact to some barb wire we used to secure the dig site with. That said, it's also pretty heavy, i.e. you definitely notice that you're wearing something different than a cotton or lambskin jacket (not only weight-wise but also in regards of temperature). Anyway, if you're looking for a jacket to wear in case you're dragged behind a truck - go with horsehide. That will definitely do the trick.
Not having much close-up photos at hand, but maybe these already help to get an impression:

Here's one I had a few years ago:
I prefer the drape of lamb or thin cowhide personally. I know a lot of folk like leather to be heavy. But I feel that it drapes better in the lighterweight leathers.

My first Indy jacket was horsehide for my 21st birthday (for reference, I'm 29 now). I wore it pretty much solidly for seven years in the winter, before I got a shrunken lamb hero for my 28th birthday which I wear mostly now instead, finding I can wear it all year round.
Here's a picture of it when I first got it (complete with also brand new Magnoli Mark VII replica):
And here it is after seven years wear with my (then) barely assembled Indy costume (still the same bag though!):
I wore it in all weathers too, and no matter what I put it through, as you can see, it barely marked up at all. It really is a super tough hide.

thank you!
it fits your perfectly, it is incredible that you can barely observe any different between two photos on your HH jacket, do you have any idea how much weight is your HH jacket? thank you

Thanks! Unfortunately, I'm not sure on the weight. I've never weighed it. You definitely know your wearing it, but to be honest, I got used to the weight pretty quickly.
The lining is in shreds though around the pockets. That held up much worse than the outside!

I always thought horsehide would be make a great Indy jacket. I love my lambskin, but HH would take a real beating.

I've had a lamb wested since '98. It's a great jacket and has been through ALOT in the past few years.
If IF Wested ever gets their LC Hero jacket off the ground.... I'm ordering if in Horsehide and then I'm done, I'll just wear it until it falls apart.
I've heard that it's a great hide to have but doesn't give you the Indy drape that we've come to expect.
Personally, I'm okay with it. Traditional leather jackets were goat or horse back in the day.

I bought a horse hide Wested off ebay, and when I got it, the first thing I noticed was the weight! Compared to my Flesh & Hide it is easily two to three times the weight, and a heavier, thicker feeling leather. Looking forward to wearing it more when it gets cooler.

of all the jackets I have purchased and then sold, I only regret selling the wested horsehide I had. It was my first jacket and other than the collar, was perfect.
if you get one, never get rid of it. great jacket!
I have no pics however..sorry

I own one horsehide prototype, though not a Wested, agree that the main issue with HH is the physical weight. I tt's something to keep in mind if you live in a warmer area, as you'll rarely get to wear it due to that weight.
