How do I flatten my wested side vents?

They're all stretched out and won't stay closed.
Yes, that the nature of the pleats. It weakens. This happend on all the original jackets INdy wore in the films as well.
The only way to have them close all the time is if they were made with elastic bands that keep them from flaring out.
