The Fall 2016 offerings haven't hit retail yet...heck, I don't even think the Spring 2016 offerings have hit retail yet. Matt did post a picture on Instagram that I posted in the other thread:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BASmWoBIto6/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I haven't yet gotten my hands on an "excellent" quality Stetson. The Fortune and Glory may be a good excuse to do so. I do have a Premiere Stratoliner, which has the royal deluxe felt, and it's a nice improvement over Stetsons of recent years past. Based on the price of the Excellent Quality Stratoliner, this one will probably run about $300.

My first real Indy fedora was a Stetson 'Nostalgia'. I picked up a couple of them at the time and wore them for years. To my eyes, it looks like the only difference is that these ship with dimensional brims.

I wonder if they solved the felt dye 'problem'. They use to use a powered dye suspended in the felt. If you got caught in a heavy down pour, the dye released, putting a river of brown water running down between your eyes.

Been there, done that, ain't interested in it happening again. [-(

SURELY they got that straightened out!

It seems that they've gotten rid of the powder dyes. Mine certainly doesn't have it.

I think it varies by line. I picked up a Stetson Dune that stained my hands DRY! And like lost its color in the process. The newer lines, like the Stetsonian and Whippet reboots might be better, given the people pushing for those.

I'll talk to Matt, and se if he can pop in here and offer some info...
I love what he's been posting. We've probably have all had Stetsons at one point in time,
and would love to see them come back with some nice stuff.

Heck, most of us started OUT with Stetson's, and wore them for years before branching out to other possibilities. :TOH:

I hope Matt wanders in after you contact him!

Dalexs dropped me a line on my facebook page, so I thought I'd drop by to leave a bit more information on this one of our new open crown offerings for fall 2016.

Sorry I haven't been posting much anywhere lately, just been quite busy.

Fortune and glory kid… fortune and glory.

Here are the specs on the new open crown FORTUNE AND GLORY from Stetson.

The style is made open crown using our wooden blocks that are replicated from our original master blocks, some dating back to the mid 1800s.

The open crown height of a 7 ¼ block is 5 1/5 inches. The crown height, like with all our styles, is graduated, so larger block sizes are incrementally taller and smaller block sizes are incrementally shorter.

The hat comes in two qualities.

The Excellent quality version is a soft finish all beaver body that is in our Tobacco brown, a color chosen at our Longview felt plant from our felt color swatch archives.

The Royal Deluxe quality is a soft finish blend of rabbit, Hare’s fur and beaver and comes in our mink color.

The brim cut is dimensional, meaning it is longer in the front and back than it is on the sides.

Front and back measure 2 ¾”
Sides measure 2 ½”

Ribbon: Cotton rayon grosgrain 1 ½” width, color is dark cordovan brown.

Sweatband: Sheepskin vintage pebble grain in russet brown.

Lining heavy cotton rayon satin.

Royal Deluxe lining is white with the Royal Deluxe logo

That looks good to me. Definitely stepped up their game from what i can see from pictures. Is that the general consensus? No more powder dye and better construction?

I am a satisfied owner of a grey Stetson Racine and a tawny Stetson Stetsonian hat. I am quite pleased with theses hats. They are hat designs that Matt Deckard is responsible for re-introducing to the Stetson line of men's dress hats. I look forward to the Fortune And Glory Stetson when it becomes available.

To the dying issue, I have a Dune in brown (or whatever they call it) that I bought about 3 years ago. In the Fall, I got caught in a terrible down pour in Berea, Kentucky. The color didn't run or fade. I was soaked, too. I also got rained on over the weekend and no problems.

That being said, I had a Temple from 15 years ago that was a mess in the rain.

I see all kinds of cool offerings, but nowhere to buy them.

I think that's because most are sold thru your basic "hat shop..."
(and I'm not talking custom hat shops)

Around the city, and in some of the touristy places, I've seen plenty of Stetsons
on the shelves.

And some of the online places carry them.

It'd be nice if they had a direct online seller that would carry this one.

I did a search on EBay and saved it so I would get notified if one comes up in my size.

I have owned several Stetson fur felt and every one of them had the dye running issue when wet. These were all purchased in the last several years and I currently don't have any. I still have an Indy one I bought a few years ago in new condition but it is in the donation bag for the next clothing drive they do here in Germany. I have too many good fedora hats to justify keeping it.

Well, it's here!

with a quick, dry crease:

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc12 ... mdnlzo.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm actually headed out of town on a business trip tomorrow, so unfortunately I don't have time to work on a nice crease at the moment. But quick impressions: this is really nice felt! It's very soft and supple, and feels like a nice density. While it does have a nice vintage blockshape, it's not what I would say is 100% "SA" by any means. The sweatband is a nice soft leather, and the black lining is a nice touch.

The biggest "con" to the hat is of course Hatco's ribbon stitches, for which they inexplicably use plastic thread. The good news is that these tacking stitches are neater than I've seen on some other Stetsons. At least there's that.

Got mine and wore it for the first time yesterday. As been stated, not 100% accurate by any means but a close enough version. Easy to bash. Did a more of a Kingdom type bash. Felt is nice. Not too floppy but also not stiff. More of a dress hat feel to it. Mine looks just like the pictures already posted in the thread.

Does anyone here have direct experience with both the new Stetson and the Akubra Fed IV or Fed IV Deluxe? How do they compare, both in quality and in accuracy?

Re: Stetson Fortune and Glory

by Glenville86
Hard to compare as I am not as much into exact screen accuracy. The color of the Stetson to me is more on the mark. I wore the Stetson for 2-weeks and it has been great. It has not experienced any rain or snow yet as we did not have any for those 2-weeks. I have a bunch of different color Feds and they feel more like a workman type of fedora. The Akubra are very hearty and I usually wear them when it is cold with rain or snow. The Stetson seems very solid but more of an upscale fedora. More of a casual dressier type of fedora. I would have to give the nod to the Akubra for being a tougher hat. I would place it as the toughest built of all the different makers I have in my collection.

I had an old Stetson Indy I donated to charity and the new model is a much better fedora.

My favorite overall Indy fedora is the AdVintage line. Both their Harrison and 100% beaver ones are very good value and meet in the middle for the toughness wanted and also having an upscale look.

It was mentioned that the pics in this thread were missing, so here is one. This is the Indy hat I designed for Stetson's 150th anniversary. Specs are above. The gray version has a slightly wider ribbon, per the one seen in the Clipper scene in Raiders.

I don't keep mine in an Indy crease, but this one has actually become one of my favorite and most worn hats. If you can find a beaver version, I highly recommend.
