where exactly should the end of the sleeve meet the hand for a traditionally proper fit?

I don't know if it will help or not, but when we got measured for our dress uniforms, they measured the sleeves to just past the wrist, if you put all your fingers out straight, you'll notice that where your wrist ends there is a boney part conected to your thumb that sticks out just a little way, about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch past that is about right I think.
This is wear my dress uniform sleeves end and the Tailor said it was a proper fit, but most of the cloths we were are actually too short for us.
Hope this helps,
Ian

I would go a little long. Leather jackets have an annoying habit of riding up your arm when you reach out to drive, or to climb. They also scrunch up a bit, so I wouldn't be afraid of going maybe a 1/2" longer. That's just my opinion.
I have a 36" sleeve length, so I obsess over this issue. When I ordered my Wested, I originally thought it was too long. But after wearing it around for awhile, I realized that it is perfect.

You'll find that most recommend measuring down to the first knuckle of the thumb. That takes into account both the sleeve riding up at th elbow and when you're reaching out, ie when I'm riding on my motorcycle,
my jacket sleeve rides right up to my wrist.

If you look at your hand there is a jopint in the thumb at the base of the hand, just below the rist.a traditional suit jacket is supposed to just barely hit or cover this joint, depending on formality.

Yup. First knuckle of the thumb.
