Whip holster. Any tips or tricks to make it work well?
I recently got a whip holster- a leather scrap with a loop and a snap, and so far I am not impressed with it. I have seen the photos of Ford with his and he seemed to have a similar problem with the handle of the whip giving in to gravity and sliding out. Are there any tips, tricks, ways of winding the whip, etc to make it more secure? My handmade one, while looking a bit rough or crude, has a velcro latch and holds the whip more securely than the one I bought.

The only way to secure the whip is with 'movie magic' using a zip tie or some other addition to keep the whip coiled. The simple strap-type holder you have will lose against gravity every time.
However, all is not lost! A double wrap holder, while not SA will keep your whip exactly in place. Essentially the holder is twice as long so wraps completely around the whip before being snapped.
Do a search for 'double wrap' in the bullwhip section and you'll find multiple threads. Several options for buying or you can try your hand at making one yourself.

Good to know (kinda).
This is the one I bought. Maybe attaching some neoprene or putting plastidip on the inside would provide some movie magic.
This is the one I made and that actually tightens around the whip. This is what I wore for Heroes Con.

I ended up using some of the narrow double-sided velcro strips they sell in stores for bundling up cables and cords ( they come in a package of various colors ).
I took two of the orange ones ( couldn't find any brown ) and lightly fogged them with a rust-colored paint which closely matched the whip color. Next I coiled the whip into the appropriate shape and then cinched the two strips side-by-side around the coils where the whip holder would be covering them. A second strip ( I used one of the black ones cut down ) was placed between these strips and the whip ( out of sight in the back ). I would then place the whip into the holder, snap it in place, then take the ends of the black strip and pull them around the back of the keeper, pulling the narrow end through the velcro slot at the other end to tighten it, then pressed them together. This setup is nearly invisible when done and retains the look of the movie-style keeper. I'll try to get some pics posted up later on as I don't have any handy at the moment.

I am happy to say I did improve my whip holster. It's not perfect, but it held the whip in place much longer and better after I sprayed some Plastidip on the inside.
