Temple of Doom jacket observation

I started watching Temple of Doom tonight and noticed something unusual. In the scene where the gang is on Lao Che's plane, Willie makes Indy get up after the pilots bail out, he turns around, and.......the bottom of his jacket seems to have ripples in the leather, indicating the elastic band that you would find on some bomber jackets. I noticed that they pop up again when Indy first gets on the elephant and he turns around to yell at Willie. Anyway, I found this pretty unusual, and since I hadn't read anything about it I thought I'd share my thoughts. If it's already been discussed, I apologize. If not, maybe someone can get some screenshots of the particular scenes since I don't have the software.

Hmm. Intersting. Another excuse to view an Indy film!

I don't think I need any more excuses. My friends and family wondered about me before I found COW, and now they've gotta be about to commit me.

Think I might just have a reason to pop in my dvd copy and see what your talking about. Course, your right about not needing any excuses to do so.

I've noticed that as well, but never remembered it after viewing the film. Good catch Trevelyan. So does anyone have those HDTV screen grabs that've been floating around for a while? Rob, do you still have yours?

I just poped the DVD in to watch the 2 scenes you were talking about, and I honostly don't believe it is an elastic band. I think it is just creases in the leather,
OR
it could be one of those non Wested pieces of @#$% they had made for the film. They may have had elastic in them, removed it, and ironed most of the creases out. That's a possibility.

Huh?!? Now you guys have me curious. I'll have to wait until I get home to watch and see.
Nice observation, nevertheless, great eyes...

All right, I dug up a post a made a while back just to show everyone what I was looking at. I finally got screen grab software, so here's a shot of the strange jacket I saw. It only appears in a couple of scenes, and it just looks like this jacket was made differently than the others. I don't think it's elastic like I originally did, but it's just different than all the other jackets. Does anyone have a jacket that's done this at the bottom? Anyway, here's the pic, for what it's worth.

thanks for the encouragement Langpuss, I hoped I'd eventually prove to everyone I wasn't just imagining things, at least this time

No kidding, that's the perfect quote for this site. You should have heard their reactions when I said I put sandpaper and acetone on my Wested.

Good thing they didn't catch you being dragged behind the truck!
You'd definitely be in the funny farm by now!

So, is that jacket a Wested, or are we looking at one of those obscure French jackets, supposedly made for ToD?

Well spotted - that certainly appears to be a hem of maybe 1.5 - 2" but only on the back panel, it doesn't appear to continue to the side panel in that shot. Wierd.

I noticed that quite a while ago, too. They show up again when the raft is flying down the slope. The thing that always made me wonder.... toy compaines often reference original props when sculpting an action figure. The 1984 LJN figure has the "elastic" creases on it.
