I've gotten together some money, and I think I'm going to get me a Smith & Wesson .45, and I wonder, where's the best place to get one at the best price?
I looked at AdamsGuns.com, but they didn't have any in stock. Any suggestions? I've looked at auction arms, best price was $400, I'm willing to pay it, but that would delay me getting it modified. Any help you could give me would be grately appreciated!
I would suggest looking at Auction Arms again and do a search for "Smith 1917". $400 is not bad as these guns have gone up in demand/value over the past few years. I remember reading about that in a Magazine not too long ago.
At the time of this writing, I see three revolvers listed. All very good candidates, all with zero bids, very good prices and all in .45 ACP.
There's one out there that is $375 and has the lanyard ring, possibly a new barrel and, from the pics, a good bluing job.
Naturally, you will have to take the gun to a gunsmith to have it checked out, barrel shortened, sight moved or updated. And, you will have to locate some screen accurate grips.
One tip is to bid on somthing even if you are pretty sure the reserve won't be hit. On some auctions, I have had the seller contact me privately offering to sell at a slightly discounted price. It at least tells them you are interested.
An interesting side note, Lee's holsters are THE perfect holster for the 4 inch Smiths. When I put my gun in the hoster, you couldn't ask for a more perfect fit.
