Hello everyone!
I was messing around with my Coyle's Raider fedora, and noticed something when I popped the crown up,
The hat is slightly tapered in the front and back; but I always thought all sides for an open crowned hat where supposed to be straight?
When creased the taper kind of goes away, so is it tapered so it will be straight when creased?
Are all Indy hats like this?
Although this also might be the result of age + getting soaked from melted snow

I think when you put the crease in the top, it does actually push out the tops/sides of the hat so they do appear a bit straighter than when not creased...

All felt hats start as a cone and they all taper over time and need to be reblocked. It's just a fact of life. Yours doesn't look too bad but if it bothers you it might be time to reblock and clean it up.

Thanks for the advice, and I don't think it looks too bad; I can deal with the taper. What I'm trying to find out is if Indy hats have a slight taper in the front and back when un-bashed?Ridgerunner58 wrote:All felt hats start as a cone and they all taper over time and need to be reblocked. Yes, there has to be some tapper to a hat or your hat creased would loo like this \ /
Some have more taper to them then others. The tapper isn't the only factor to consider when getting the block shape correct.

In a lot of pictures I've seen of Coyle's Downtowner fedora, I couldn't help but notice, no matter what angle the picture was taken, it looked like there was a bit of taper in the hat - kinda bugged me, though my perception may be a bit off.
