Have Dremel, Will Restore?

In my quest to make my real M7 bag an approximation of what Indy would have carried, I ran across a quote at a WWII reenactor's site, to the effect that the real soldiers weren't issued antiques! The stuff should only look reasonably worn for the time of the action. I just bought a WWII mess kit, no more anachronistic than the bag itself, and a set of M1926 cutlery- warning, people on the Bay do slip VN era utensils into "WWII" sets! The knife, for one, needs to look like a knife, not a spear!
So, when they arrive, I plan to use my Dremel to polish them up. What do I need to get, and would my 3/8 cordless drill be better? I assume I need perhaps a buffing wheel and some sort of compound? Brass wheel or not? TIA for any help!
