MVII repair - side stitch canvas where metal O-ring attaches

I have 3 bags - two which have frayed and torn at where the canvas like cloth binds the O ring that holds the strap due to weight. The O-ring has torn right through the cloth binding it to the bag. I'm assuming this is common with any bag that is used on a semi daily basis and has any weight added to it due to age of the materials.

Does anyone know what can be used as a suitable replacement material to replace the damaged pieces (color/sturdiness), and where it can be found? thanks for the help.

I've seen web fabric at Jo-ann's Fabric store in the past - other fabric/craft stores may have similar stuff for sale. I ended up using part of the original shoulder strap to repair mine. Here's the thread I posted up several years back:

Did you save the webbing belt that came with the bag? That is the exact same material as used on the sides for the o-rings. You can take it to a tailor or luggage repair and have them re-purpose the webbing belt into the side ring holder.

Ehhh, not always. My two MKVII straps were a distinctive herringbone webbing, versus the bags' standard weave O-ring webbing.

Speaking of repairs.... my chicago screw decided to blast off my strap the other day and I couldn't find it again.

I bought one from Tandy leather but while it does hold the strap on there it's too long of a screw....

But looking on the site, there's no options for shorter screws....

Backstage,

PM sent. When you finally do find a screw that works, try a dot of blue Loctite right on the first threads.

Ah, loctite! Great suggestion! I'm sure I have some sitting at work...

My bag is an original Mrk VII that I received from Noel Howard over 16 years ago.... it's lasted a good while but I can tell the same issue is about to pop up on the O ring straps.... I'm tempted to just buy a replica so I can save my original.

Which from the looks of it... Magnoli is the only person that sells replicas anymore... Todd and WPG no longer offer them...

Jack,

I have Magnoli's bag as a backup - it's very nice. Lamenting the day when the original eventually gives out. :(

Roger that, I knew they had originals.... i was actually looking for some of the replicas. Magnoli's is a pretty good (and only) option.
