Current Wested shirt offering question

Has anyone recently purchased a current Wested Indy shirt?.
The one I have is at least 10years or more.
I'm curious how they are now, mine is kind of dressy in appearance and after all this time has never really wrinkled like my Azuma, WPG and Todd's.
Are they more in line< has Peter ever up grade the material.
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Shortly before Gemma was married and left Wested, I sent her an email regarding the shirts and other then that they (Wested) no longer offer both sets of buttons (extra for 'LC' look), they are still the same. So, taking into consideration she was married in December, I would make the assumption that this is still true. I really like my Wested shirt, other then it has a bit of shortness in the body length, but like you, mine is the same age -- and it has really held up and other then washing and pressing it out -- I have not done anything unusual to keep it in this good of shape! It is a quality shirt.
I understand your questions regarding looking; 'Dressy,' rather then 'Indyish,' however for the duties I have in my life, I need my clothes to look at bit more -- 'put together!' But, I sure have fun on weekends and times when I don't need to look so fresh
! Hope this helps a bit. You might want to send the question to Rebecca and/or Peter for more current data on this

The Wested shirts of old had a greenish tint to them. Not sure if they changed that or not? I think the WPG is pretty solid at the moment, of the current offerings at around the $50 range.

True, but my question is regarding todays Wested, not other brands/Mfg.
I just want to know if they've changed their fabric.
I'll be shooting them an email to see what they say.
I'll keep this thread post with their response.
Mean while IF anyone has a current Wested, don't be shy.

Not entirely off-topic, but here's a great source of vintage new old stock screen accurate LC buttons:

I'm converting my Noel Howard / M.B.A.
Raiders shirt to an LC.

Might want to check that, comment says these were used on field jackets.
This one might be closer.

But, please, can we stay on the topic, I don't want this thread high jacked, I'm just trying to find out if anyone recently (in the last year) has bought a Wested shirt.

The 24 Line buttons are the exact size as the ones on Noel's shirts (I have them in-hand). Wested's fabric is a thin, almost-white shade of cotton, a bit coarser than the original M.B.A. shirts. I had to boil the shirt in tea to match the shade of the screen-used shirts, and even then it's still not quite right. Also, the Wested cuffs have rounded corners, whereas the authentic Indy sleeves are squared-off. I believe Magnoli makes a much more accurate Indy shirt than Wested.

My mistake, Hmmm, how do you think these would look on Tods new offering
How old is your Wested whipwarrior, and even with the rounded cuff, those details don't bother me so much as the fact that shirt doesn't take on any character like Todd's and Noels.

I think these buttons would look great on
any Indy shirt. I used the LC Blu-ray for reference. The Mediterranean beach scene provides the best detail because you get a nice close-up of the buttons when Indy draws the gun from his belt. My Wested shirt is a few years old, but I can confirm that the fabric does not fold, drape, or stain like Noel Howard's mercerized Swiss cotton poplin. That was some truly unique fabric, very thin and semi-glossy (when new). One of our present Indy suppliers
really needs to source that stuff so we can have new shirts made!
Here's a comparison of the two fabrics, Noel Howard on the left, Wested on the right:

A comparison of the buttons:
The vintage button is
fractionally larger, but not enough to make a difference when buttoning.

Received my response.
Here it is.
Our shirt material has changed since 10 years ago, not from 1 year ago however.
Attached a picture to help you out,
All the Best

Probably the lighting, very much cream / yellowish. So no ones bought a Wested recently, hmmm, oh well, might have to keep an eye on my funds and get another, we'll see.
Here's the picture they sent me.

Hey Croft, id they mention "how" the material has changed?
Also the color, judging by the picture, reminds me of the first run from Todd. I couldn't help but think wow this thing is sooo yellow(or cream). I did do some dye work to it with some Ritts pearl gray and it came out awesome. Now it happens to be my fav. The fabric was just right I.M.O. I wonder if there are any similarities.

I just got one of Wested's shirts about a week ago. The color doesn't look anything like the photo you posted. I wouldn't describe it as yellow-ish at all. Compared to Todd's current shirt it is a little more brown-kaki or sand colored while I would call the Todd's more of a grey-kaki. The Wested is also a thinner material.

That image looks a bit warm to me.
Adjusted to take into account the lights and in mind to what the Wested usually look like I suspect it is more like this:
And thinner is more accurate.

Thanks Kt Templar, I had a feeling that the pic they sent along was a little off.
And Eundercoffler, after having the shirt for so little time, but after a wash has it taken on any character? or does it still look the same. Also any pic's of you wearing it, don't have to be geared up, just trying to see if it's worth investing in another shirt.

Hey Croft,
I haven't washed it yet (I'm a little gun shy after my Todd's shrinking so badly). Ill see if I can get some pics but it won't be until next week.

Just out of curiosity Croft, are you trying to collect every version of every Indy shirt ever available?

Yup, yup. (as my daughter always say's
)
Oh and I already have just about all of them, with the exception of some of the nock offs I see on evil-bay.
And even there I some times feel drawn to buy one just to see it. But I'm saving for one of Johns hats.
I have
1) Wested
3) versions of Todd's, wished I'd never sold his first offering, yellow or not, it was his first.
3)Azuma's ROTLA limited run, TOD & LC,
1) WPG
2) NH (1 unaltered, 1) re-dyed using the process to make it more SOC
1) AB (wish he'd make another run)
The only reason I have an interest in another Wested is to hope that the material takes on character.
And Eundercoffler a cold wash shouldn't hurt it, I believe that Todd's issues are based on the material was never pre-washed prior to being cut for the shirt, hence the reason so much shrinkage issues.

Nice job, looks awesome. Did you add another button at the bottom.
I did this on my NH MBA Raiders, kept coming untucked and didn't look good. Ya I know it's supposed to come untucked, but that's only in Cairo, right.

No, we just replaced the buttons that were already on the shirt. Adding another button would've involved creating a new button-hole, at risk of damaging an irreplaceable garment. I can live with the shirt coming untucked, which is part-and-parcel of the classic Indy look.

True, that's why I had a tailor do it.
Nice job, if I could only find some just like those but lighter for my Todd's

When ordering those buttons mentioned above, are you buying them as a single button at a time. What I mean is how many may come in package? I see they are .99 cents each...so you need about a dozen?
Seems pricey to just get some buttons.

You just type in how many buttons you need. The NH shirt required 13 buttons. The total + shipping was about $24 as I recall. True, it's pricey for a handful of plastic buttons, but irrelevant for a crowd who doesn't think twice about dropping $500+ on a leather whip or a custom-made felt hat. Bottom line: they're brand-new vintage buttons that exactly match the ones used on the LC movie shirt! Besides, it's pretty much a one-time buy, depending on how many shirts you want to modify, but totally worth it for screen accuracy, in my opinion.

what is the proper washing instructions for any of these Indy shirts? I remember do not put it into the dryer but should you just wash it and hang to dry?

I own the Wested and I wash in cold and throw in the dryer and never had a problem, seems the material might be pre-shrunk prior to the tailor doing their thing. This is why the Wested doesn't get the wrinkled look around the pleats, you get some, but not a lot.
But you can never go wrong with cold wash and good ol air dry.
