Wested LC Pre Distressed Cow on ORDER / HAS ARRIVED 7-16-14

Posted: Thu Jun 26, 2014 2:14 pm
by car96
Well, after 2 years of researching on here and looking at other people's jackets here at this site, I ordered a LC pre distressed cow thru Wested online order form.

I provided my custom sizes, hoped I measured correctly, and with the help from KT, Texan Scott and many others of you from several email's a long time ago, I provided some special requests...that I hope Peter / Wested understand and are ok with; I included them directly with the rest of the order form like their website says (not on a separate e-mail).

Here's to hoping I get what I am looking for :)

My first ever Wested was pre-distressed cow and I really liked it. Even though the distressing is rather too even, I still like the look of the leather - and it looks more natural once it's broken in and has picked up some natural distressing on top. I wish I had some pics of my jacket, but unfortutely they all died along with my old computer.
I nearly bought another recently, but opted instead for novapelle. Nice hide!

Ok....need some help here. When Wested looked at my specs, they shot back several questions because the tailor does not understand what is wanted.....and I do not know how to speak the language of this jacket....sleeves, collars, seams, stiching.....etc. I just know what I like.

What Wested replied with as confusing is highlited in red color below. What I asked for precedes the red color.

Here is some of the confusion :

• Collar: Slightly wider than a standard CS/LC with rounded collar points - Do you mean like the Hero collar?

I don't really know what the 'Hero' collar means....I just want it to look like this.
Image
Image

• Sleeves: No overstitch at the back of the arm. (plain butted seam like the front sleeve seam). Do you mean the double stitch? So you want a PLAIN stitch pattern?

I just want the seam to look like this....I am not even sure if this picture shows what the above in red is asking for.
Image

They also had questions about the zipper.
• Gold or antique brass zipper with a simple non turning pull. (basic square pull like you get on jeans). We can do brass but we can not specify the exact zip any more, the zips on the Raiders are normally bell zip, so your average zip but round rather than square, the zip doesn't 'turn'.

I just want the zipper that is on Zoltar's jacket shown here.

All the credit for that jacket goes to Zoltar and then I think he put it up on the Bazaar for sale and I think whipwarrior bought it...could be wrong.

KT has helped me a lot, so I hope Wested can understand all my rookie requests.

Looking at your questions you are almost there.

Please check your PMs.

If you are concerned about lamb being light, just go for the standard weight antiqued cow. It is not *that* heavy. I personally like the lightweight antiqued cow it has nice drape.

Just as a teaser, I thought I would throw up some pics I took this morning of my Wested Predistressed Hide. It was a custom for someone else so it fits me just a tad bit off but this leather, while too heavy for this part of town, is really gorgeous! :o

Wested stocks some great cow in that barn. Gorak the jacket in the photos immediately after the pre-D, what is that, washed lamb? That one looks like a ringer! Looks like a newer one.

I just received a Wested LC Pre-distressed cowhide from another member here and this was my 1rst time going with this particular Indy jacket.

All I can say, 'man, I wish that I had gone w/ the pre-distressed cow earlier,' lol. In my opinion, its the best Last Crusade, Kingdom/Crystal Skull, and even a lil' of the Temple of Doom jacket. I just hit it with a coat or two of the Pecard Jell/Cream to help darken it up (with some of the seams exposed) and it simply looks 'amazing' hands-down! For me, my Indy jacket quest is over, ;) :D .

Just wanted to chime in and share my experience/joy over my latest jacket acquisition.
Best wishes,
Aaron

Cool, yeah, at first glance the jacket may seem to be rather too light in color. But, as stated, once Pecard Jell/Cream is applied (the Jell/Cream absorbs the best w/ having less beeswax), it helps to darken the jacket up wherever you may apply it. Although the Pecard has to be re-applied to not only treat the jacket, but to also keep it dark - its simply awesome looking. Truly makes for an excellent Indy jacket and one that makes a new jacket look like its 20 years old, ;) . Please post pics when you're able to!

Best,
Aaron

What I have been waiting on.....love it. I think with some natural distressing and some 'manufactured distressing' it will come out with it's own character and maybe not look as SA as the movie jacket as seen on the motorcycle scene with his dad, but that was my inspiration.

Thanks to Peter and the folks at Wested.

Thanks KT for replying back to my many e-mails, Zoltar -for showing us many pics and diagrams, Knibs-for showing us a spot on LC jacket in my opinion, Texan Scott for the advice & many others that have helped me get to this point

Absolutely gorgeous. :M:

My ONLY comment is based on the fact I like things OVER engineered for longevity of the item, so I'd have had all the double stitching added and every stress point reinforced with stitching rather than glued for appearance, but that's just me and my practices.

Show us more after you've worn it in. They always look great out of the box, but the REAL test is after the jacket form fits to your body after a while. Only then will you REALLY know if you have the 'one, true' jacket. ;)

First blush, though, it appears a home run!

Looks pretty good in your photo. Is the back actually the length you ordered? 26", right?

Also, I just noticed you requested that the pockets be higher from the finished edge of the bottom. I'm wondering why you requested that. I've never considered it. Is it somehow closer to what's on screen than the standard way that Wested makes it?

It's a beautiful jacket, man!

If I measured correct, then it's 26" at the back.....I based it off another jacket I already own (not a Wested). I just seems to be really short when I wear the jacket and makes it kinda tight/small to move around in.

Yes the pockets are that way to be screen accurate; at least that is what I have got from other forum poster's on here.

Yes, a touch too short IMO. You might go slightly bigger on the jacket size too... But if the shoulders and chest feel right then maybe not.

Those pics are great KT. What's still confusing is adding another 2 inches on my current jacket to the back and I assume that means the front too- still doesn't seem to get the waist to front pocket relationship-the pockets are 3 inches from the bottom of the jacket & that is SA as far as I know.

The jacket doesn't have to be spot on SA for me; just want it to fit me & then I want that rust red chocolate distressing to come through- and not look like a lamb trash bag. Those guys on here with LC lamb jackets don't look like trash bags at all- the jacket has to have some substance to it-I don't want it form fitting.

A size up may be needed KT because when zipped its a little snug at the armpit and chest plus I can't hardly get my hands back up into the pockets/ handwarmers-and my fear is a different hide and size may provide another problem in the fit?

It's already a running in circles event.

I have to try on everything I wear and a lot of times my size is in between.

The OTHER thread, on the other hand, were all oversized.

Next time ask someone for help. There are a lot of folks here who would be MORE than happy to step you through the process.

Looking at the pics of you standing upright 2" to the length (which changes front and back) won't hurt how it falls at the front. You can see the bottom of the pocket is way above the belt line on you, whereas on Ford it's at least one inch below.

This is probably why you are finding it hard to use the pockets, I had the same issue with a jacket I specced to short too.

Great jacket, but I also feel it looks too short. I know that's very disappointing - been there myself! But so much is right about the jacket that it would be a shame not to get it sorted and get the extra length. A hassle, but worth it in the long run.

Question, car? Did you order the jacket longer in back than the front, because from your photos, what I see is that the jacket is about the right length in back, maybe an inch longer wouldn't hurt, but it looks short in front, by maybe 1 1/2"?

From my experience, the regular Raiders (and I would guess LC) cut is not very forgiving of anything less than aan absolutely flat tummy. I always hated he way my jackets were lower at the back than at the front. I tried reducing my own "front" and also found that the Hero pattern works better for me as the back is higher than the front and therefore more forgiving for less than athletic figures.

No, I asked for 26" measured down the back....just as you see on Wested's site on how to size/measure. All of my specs are in a post above. The more I measure the actual Wested jacket at times I get the full 26" down the back and other times 26 3/4"....it just depends on if the front zipper is zipped or if I pull the back of the jacket taught....it's real close to the 26". So, I don't think it's a tailor's error at Wested.

They did correct & gave me what I asked for, I made the mistake thinking 26" would work.

I have two other leather jackets, neither Wested, both are department store bought and along with my suit/sport coat measurements, is what I used as a guide for Wested's online order form.

Lets call jacket one Eddie Bauer & it measures 28" down the back (way Wested site shows) and when worn sits below the pockets of my Todd's pants about 2 1/2". It also sits well below the belt line in the front. It feels too long. Armpit to armpit is 26 1/2" & I think this means something.

Lets call jacket two Andrew Marc New York & it measures 27" down the back and the base just barely covers the button on the back pocket flap and it looks good in the front on the length. This one feels good. Armpit to armpit length measures 25 1/2".

I think the difference is how it's cut & how it's cut at the armpits/chest. Wested is 24" armpit seam to armpit seam. So my chest measures for Wested's use was a 46 (like a suit/sport coat jacket). There is nothing on their measurement form online that actually asks for that armpit to armpit measurement....it shows it, but when you fill out the online order form, you use your suit/sport coat jacket measurement, for me 46".

I am guessing that I should have asked for a 48" chest measurement and the back measurement at 27".

Also....if I go away from this pre distress hide....should I go lamb or lambtouch? I am real hesitant on this lamb or lambtouch mainly because I don't really care for a thin leather. The predistressed hide on this current jacket is thin, but it's got some substance to it....it's not a trashbag.

Authentic Brown Lamb
Image

Lambtouch
Image

These two pics are if I added an extra 1" to the back of the jacket (which should be to the front also). The white piece of paper is measured at 1".

(Also not sure why these rotated onto their side)...hate all this technology & love it @ same time.

Car96, I sympathise because my own LC/CS jacket is also too short compared to the screen jacket - as a result of my own specs. I'm torn though because screen accuracy aside I like the shorter length on mine. The only thing that bugs me about it is that this length on my size 40 maybe looks unnatural for the jacket even without considering the screen version. I don't think that's the case with your jacket however.

The different cut of Wested's Hero and the LC have such an impact on what length to order. A Hero with a 26" back is ridiculously long on me, but it's about right for a LC style where the shoulder seams and collar are more forward.

BTW, if you look closely at those pics, I think it really shows that the jacket he was wearing was pretty thin and almost certainly lamb.

how tall are you car? Both the RoLA and LC patterns are basically standardized sizing schemes as a department store type jacket would fit, with correct shoulder seams at the top of the shoulder, sleeve seam at the top of the shoulder as it should fit.

Yeah, lamb with D-rings.
