Club Obi Wan

I recently picked this hat up for $26. The seller had no information about the hat.

The lighting makes it look more grey than it is. It is brown (I know, I know).


This bow work is interesting. The ribbon has faded significantly from a dark brown/black to the current almost rust color.


The liner is gold, but that could be due to age. This emblem is on the top. It's hard to photograph since it is under a plastic layer. There is a fedora and coiled whip in the center with various images around the edge, most noticeably lizards.






There is a size tag that reads Medium/Mediano/Moyen Made in U.S.A./Heche en E.E.U.U./Fabrique en U.S.A.

The felt is thin and light weight. It came with a tear drop bash that's pretty set so I'm assuming it was a tear drop block used originally.

The fedora came in this hat box, though I don't know if they are related. JJ Hats currently does not offer IJ fedoras on their website.


The emblem on the hat reminds me of the logo that was (is?) used on IJ products sold at Disney though it is different.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

My vote is for a vintage fur-felt Dorfman Pacific, Jeff. Stetson usually used a cloth sweatband in their fur felt models, and that one is clearly leather looking.

I wouldn't take anything from the box as a clue, as folks (including myself) store hats in any box that's available.

Anyway, that's my thought on your new acquisition, and an decent example at that.

I have to go with Michaelson, that is most definately a DP. I know because of the liner. As you can see, it has Indys hat and whip on it. I had a DP wool felt hat and it had the exact same liner in it.

My vote would be a DP as well but I wouldn't call it vintage. To be called vintage it must be at least 50 years old.

Crud, if that's true, John, I've been 'vintage' for years!!!

Do you have a picture of that liner/logo? I've never seen this logo before, that's part of the reason I was confused.

Yeah, Broner made one, but used their own label and called it the 'Raider'. It looked exactly like the Stetson. Somehow they were able to ride on Stetson's license as a subcontractor without having to use it in the hat.

When U. S. Calvary sold them through their catalog, they sometimes substituted the Broner in place of the Stetson when they ran out of stock back in the 90's.

Sorry Jeff, I don't have flickr or Imageshack or anything like that. I tried looking on Bing for images of the inside of one, but to no avail. If I had imageshack or anything like that, I would post a pic of it on here but I don't so.....

i think I saw a logo like that crop up during the hay-day of Indy merch being sold through Lucasfilm Fan Club Magazine. That would put this hat's birthdate somewhere in the early 1990's, I figure.

It the pin a straight pin, a clip, tie-tack style? Because all of the pins I have seen from the 90's were just a straight pin, no articulation, running the length of the Indiana Jones logo.
