Todd’s vs. Noel Howard comparison…
Initially, you may be thinking that this is a thread about how well Todd’s newest shirt stacks up against one of the most formidable shirts ever made? It isn’t. Instead, I want to use the NH as basically a template.
The old adage is whisper a story to someone, and let it be passed around the room. When it gets back to you, usually the resulting story is not just like what was originally spoken. The same can be true across different iterations and production runs.
I’ve noticed over the years, that as we go forward, maybe someone takes liberty to tweak or add say ¼” to this spec or that, variances are passed onto other iterations, and can even be added to, in some cases.
Just as there are variances between jacket iterations, usually producing wider yokes and pocket flaps, pointed flaps, etc., something similar happens with the shirt: mainly with the pockets, epaulets and the oh, so important shirt color, shirt tails, etc. Let’s take a look shall we….
An initial comparison prompts you to start asking questions…what was the original? For that, you have to refer back to film….
As you can see, the epaulet extended about 1” past the vertical stripe and was block tapered. The pocket was not extremely wide or tall. If you consider the fact that “Khaki” can be made with a grey, green, yellow or other such basic color, and if you consider what the film shirt actually was, it was a much lighter shade of taupe, or brown base. HD has helped to highlight subtle nuances.
....back to basics!

Hmm. Looks like WPG is closer to the NH.

Definitely not.
The WPG is too white, too thick, the epaulette is not tapered enough and the buttons are semi transparent (horn effect) where they should be solid opaque.
There is nothing in the WPG that is closer than the NH.

I think you may be confusing the Todd's shirt pictured in this thread with the WPG that I only mentioned.
My WPG is way closer to the NH than Todd's new shirt being compared in this thread. My WPG's epaulettes are tapered and more or less the length of the NH, and has opaque buttons.

…but if it makes you feel any better, the WPG's pockets are like Todd's new run.Kt Templar wrote:Drat...

A quick comparison to the actual will usually bring a person back to the centerline once again. One of the best tools I use is to try not to proceed with any preconceived ideas, but simply to see it as it actually was.
In all fairness, the NH is marked XL, but is more like a slender fit in-between size: M-L. Todd's new offering is marked Large, but was too Large in the Torso, for me. Obviously buffet corrected.
Here is another way to look at it, take a look at this still:
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm691190528/t ... _all_sf_11" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The top of the pocket is about 1" higher than the chest level button, and about even or just below the next button. This is almost exactly what you see on the NH.
There is a point where splitting hairs is overkill, but sometimes/many times necessary with reproductions.

I like Todd's new shirt batch, don't like the buttons I'd replace those, I'd like to make a comparison between the WPG and the new Todd's but I really can't because WPG changed their manufacturer or their dies/color I dunno but it's not the same as my WPG from maybe 3-4 years ago. I'd love to get an NH Raider as he was the original manufacturer of the shirt for the movies but in the meantime I love my WPG but ordering a Todd's soon, great service, good prices, and a good product.

As of this year, I think WPG's are great.micsteam wrote:I like Todd's new shirt batch, don't like the buttons I'd replace those, I'd like to make a comparison between the WPG and the new Todd's but I really can't because WPG changed their manufacturer or their dies/color I dunno but it's not the same as my WPG from maybe 3-4 years ago. They fit true to size, the color is good (looks like the NH shown here), and the buttons and epaulettes look accurate. The pockets look a bit larger than the NH's. Overall, I'd give WPG's shirt no less than an "A-".

Hmmm I don't see why the vendors don't want to restock all sizes. Obviously there's a market for it or this forum wouldn't exist. Don't they want my money?
