Indy jacket with pistol pocket...

Hey all

I have been through 3 different Indy dedicated forums
twice as many personal Indy sites
and re-watched the movies several times in the past few weeks.

doing my research on "the" Indy jacket.

sadly I have lost my way and am looking for the jacket maker I saw somewhere
that makes an Indy with an inside pistol pocket...was made in Turkey I think.

Was hoping someone could direct me to where I saw that...

and was wondering how that might affect "wear" of the Bill Kelso if I have it added.

Thank you everyone, lots of great help and valuable info here.

GB,

Not sure if this is the vendor you're looking for, but Pop's came to mind when you mentioned Turkey. You may have to email them because I didn't see an Indy jacket on their site.

What's a pistol pocket. Is it like one of those side entry interior pockets like Aero do or does it have something to do with guns?

I imagine it has to do with guns. At least thats where my mind goes. But personally I prefer a holster, easier to get to if it's needed. Imagine Indy fumbling for his gun in the bar hahahaha

Perhaps i would put a backup pistol in it though, something subcompact and small. But that would fit in my Wings Legend easily already.

Vertical interior pockets in jackets are generally refered to as "map pockets" as that was was kept in them.

I would think any jacket that does not have a built-in structure to carry a gun would sag and pull from the gun's weight and not drape naturally.

From the Pop's website:
The spine part of the pocket is stitched to the vertical seam below the armpit supporting the main weight of the firearm, eliminating both the telltale bulge in the front of the coat and related "pulling down" on the front of the coat.

Yeah, a pistol pocket was designed to be at an angle on both sides of the interior of the jacket at about the same level as the regular outside pockets, usually with snaps to hold the pocket closed. They are/were usually lined with light canvas to allow carry of automatics.

You can find them in period B15 flight jackets and the like. Those were designed to hold .45 1911 Colts.

Blimey, how does it feel carting a metal monster like a 1911 in your jacket?

Well, if it's a map pocket you're after, most Indy jackets have one standard. Some do them on the right, some on the left. Some have different amounts of leather or material used in the design, and vary in depth. If you go with a custom jacket, the makers will usually work with you to get you what you want.

I think he's referring to a vertical pocket that's available in some Indy jackets, but not most.

Or, I could be completely wrong will all this pocket talk.

Yep, you and I were on the same page. Sounded like Chewie was referring to the horizontal pocket that is pretty standard in Indy jackets. :TOH:
