how the heck can wested charge under $250?

i have seen leather jackets that run well over $400 and i am sure that the quality of a wested is equal to that or much better...i'll know in 4 days when i get my jacket. :D

also, when i looked at a bunch of leather coats at the malls while Christmas shopping, most looked so cheap.

i do have a nice black nautica leather jacket and its simply beautiful and very high quality...but it was really expensive.

it just amazes me that all the wested jackets are so inexpensive for the quality i have been hearing about...not to mention that an indy jacket has history behind it. oh, and they are custom made!!!

i know there is no middle man involved, but still, how can anyone complain about anything for the price and quality?

well, that's just my 2 cents.

I have always wondered why his jackets are low priced. And they are. Just look at the trash jackets that you see in department stores. I have seen loads of off the shelf jackets higher than the Wested. You can get a Wested for less, and made to fit to boot. It is truly surreal to me. Fedora

I guess Peter's answer is this. http://www.wested.com/indyjacket/faq.html#two
Why is the price so reasonable compared to others?

Because Wested is a manufacturing Film Costumier and you are buying direct from the Factory and not from a retail outlet or store, so you cut out the middle man.

Our only hope is that Peter doesn't wake up and come to his senses.

As David Letterman used to say, "How can we afford to do this? Volume, VOLUME, VOLUME!"

I beleive I also heard Peter say at one point, the leather, and the labor is cheaper on that side of the pond....

I J

But the real reason is because Peter is a decent guy and doesnt want to gouge us!

I just ordered my 1st Wested and I didn't even give any consideration to the FS (because I didn't want to spend that much) or US Wings. Why would I when I can get a custom made jacket? You get a better fitting jacket, made with quality materials by quality people. Why not get a Wested?

The Wested is a great bargan. The price is low because you are buying basically at wholesale. Since they don't manufacture for other retailers, there is no mark up. Also, I do believe there are some economic factors involved. However...

The exchange rate does fluctuate. The last Wested I ordered came out to $289. If you use your credit card, there's an $8-$9 currency conversion fee. That takes you up to $298. Then there's $30 shipping (or is it $35?) that takes you up to $328. Then there's roughly $15 in import duty. That takes you up to $343. Then there are the phone calls. If you're like me, you want to talk to them in person, and those calls ain't cheap. And if you want to call from time to time to check on the status...figure you'll spend $30 on the phone at least. That takes you up to $373. Don't get me wrong, you're getting a great deal for a custom jacket, but don't expect to walk away for under $250. $350 is more realistic.

The Wested is indeed a bargain but the gap is closing. In case anyone hasn't been following the money market, the dollar is falling so fast against the foreign currencies it'll make you dizzy trying to watch it. If you still want to get that bargain you better buy one this year and quick, it's only going to get worse.

Peter sure puts a lot of love in the jackets, and doesn't try to wring the dough out of us at the same time.

Cheers, Peter!

Not quite. You still have to add in the shipping from Flightsuits
to this amount, which is usually $20.00 dollars.

Then you have to add in additional for any alterations like
sleeves length mods, or body mods. That can add anywhere
from $50.00 dollars more to a Flightsuits. Wested does not
charge for this.

Then, if you want any other leather from Flightsuits, other than
the two that they specify, you have to add in at least another
$125.00 dollars to the price. Wested does not charge for this.

Call or write the guys at Flightsuits to find out. I just did this
a few weeks ago. I asked about an Indy jacket in a different hide other
than the two they show, and they sent me a price of $125.00
additional, above the $428.00 of their lambskin. Then there
was an additional charge of $50.00 for sleeve altering, and the
$20.00 for shipping, and you have a grand total of over $600.00!!

And to top it off, if you alter the jacket in anyway, even the
sleeves, you can not return it for a refund. A Wested you can
return for any reason, at any time if you don't like it.

The prices are not even close to a Wested.
