Decoding US Wings

Post by AdaminNYC »

Hi all,
I know Sgt Hack is cool as heck, but I thought you guys might be able to provide the simplest answer.
What's the difference between a Legend and a Signature Series jacket?
Descriptions didn't seem to survive to the new site.
Thanks!

The Legend is the newer, slim fitting pattern, a little more accurate. The Sig. series represents the older style, fuller cut, wide yoke, etc.

Ah, thank you, gents, for your speedy and informative replies.

Now, I just need to find the one I want in stock. Texas steerhide sounds like a winner, though I reside in the wasteland between S and XXL. Grey area, really, but it's my comfort zone.

If only I'd known Schott was making Indy jackets for USW before I got married...

Schott made the Signature Series, and the U.S. made versions of the Legend, but I believe these are sold out in most sizes now. Most of what is currently on offer is from overseas, although reports have been favorable regarding quality of these too.

If you haven't caught the latest info in other discussions, the USW sales strategy right now is all web based Indy jackets will be Schott made in the US, and the overseas made jackets will be made for corporate sales.

Thanks, Michaelson. That is interesting.

I noticed two things. The first, and far more interesting, is that it looks like US Wings has started selling some of Avirex's Cockpit USA jackets. I immediately recognized the vintage roughneck oil rigger jacket, which is a similar style to the Indy jacket.

Much less interestingly, it looks like they are starting to clean up their redesigned site a bit. They used to have at least 4 categories for Indy jackets from the "Jackets & Coats" drop down. (Finding usability issues with websites is my career, though I try to be more forgiving of the small businesses.)

I noticed this one too -- interesting thing is no price is posted. I even attempted 'adding to cart,' just to check out the pricing, but it would not add to cart. Most peculiar :-k ! W>

I have heard there are several new things in the pipeline, including a new lighter weight American Bison leather that will be going to Schott for new G1's, Indy 'Legends', and A2's, but once again nothing else has been revealed.

I believe Wings has had Cockpit USA jackets on their website for quite awhile now. I was under the impression that Avirex had separated as a clothing brand name in recent years, and the Cockpit jackets were sort of an independent line now.

Also, to back up just a bit, the Legend jacket is built to more closely resemble/reproduce the Raiders jacket.

The Signature Series will come closer to matching the last Crusade or Crystal Skull look.

If that matters... ;)

Cheers!
