Make It Jones Review
Just wanted to share my experience buying a new belt, holster, bag strap and whip holder from Make it Jones. David was an absolute pleasure to work with. He would always respond to any of my questions within a day or two and would give me his own opinions and what would work best for me. When I put in my order there was a few things I discussed with him which I listed below.
1. Raiders Hawaii look.
2. Want it all distressed
3. Wanted the belt look on the holster to be very snug so the holster wouldn't travel around the belt.
4. Wanted the holster to have a ghosted revolver shape into the leather.
David basically told me he could accomplish all of the things we discussed. He told me which hardware he suggested for the Hawaii look, told me the price and when it would be delivered. And after that discussion I was sold.
Below are some pictures of what I received and some comparison shots to some of my older Todd's gear
Holster
Buckle
Strap
Whip Holder
Make it jones VS Todd's. Todd's seems to be a bit more orange colored

I cant recommend MakeitJones enough. Todd's is a great way to get good looking gear for little money; however if you want to bring your gear up to the next level look no further then MakeitJones. All together out the door for a custom order it cost me £110 (about $178). I'm 100% satisfied with what I bought and I cant wait for my Del Carpio whip and Alden boots to come so I can take some full gear shots with my new gear from MakeitJones. Check him out at https://sites.google.com/site/makeitjones/

+1 for David at makeitjones.
He's one of the few vendors left for high-quality, made-to-order Indy leather gear.

It took around twenty days from the time David shipped it to the time I received it. I am sure the extreme weather the U.S. has been experiencing has a lot to do with it. It is well worth the wait.

I'd wait 20 days for a quality gear item. I've waited a lot longer.
Re: Make It Jones Review
David triumphs again! Having ordered a hybrid Raiders/LC whip carrier last year, I decided to upgrade the rest of my Indy accessories to complement the new LC pants I’m getting from Magnoli soon. Prior to this, my gun belt was a Noel Howard Raiders minus riveted whip carrier. When I decided to go full Crusade, I simply cut off the metal keeper. Easy fix, but it was never a true LC belt. The end shape was wrong, the leather too dark, etc.
I opted for the 4-rivet LC pattern with silver hardware, because I personally believe the “brass buckle” theory is a deceptive trick of lighting. Since David couldn’t find an exact match for the sturdy Noel Howard D-buckle, I shipped the belt back to the U.K. along with a template traced from a hi-res LC publicity photo. David crafted my new belt using strap leather within 7g of the same weight as the original, repurposing my vintage NH buckle and replicating that distinctive LC boxy end shape. The finished belt is a rich medium brown color, moderately aged for an adventure-worn look, and gloriously supple. Even the un-tanned back side, incredibly, is silk-smooth!
Along with the belt, I ordered a dark brown LC bag strap with medium distressing. Once again, David delivered quality in spades, offering a choice of strap widths cut to perfect length for my height. I “chose wisely” a 7/8 width strap marginally narrower than my old Wade Egan strap, with a suitably scaled roller buckle. Unrolling the strap, I initially thought it was too narrow, but LC publicity photos (Ford ~ Connery session and the June 1989 Premiere magazine cover) convinced me that the 7/8-inch width is indeed screen-accurate. Look at the strap compared to the shirt pocket flaps and I think you’ll agree.
I also bought a vintage unissued Whiteley’s bag from Soldier of Fortune UK especially for the new strap. The stars aligned when the new satchel arrived alongside David’s package, as if destined. I promptly discarded the webbed strap, cleaned the bag in water, pressed out the wrinkles, removed the center divider, and attached David’s magnificent LC strap. Finally, I further distressed the leather with fine steel wool and a light coat of Pecards dressing for good measure.
Bottom line: David Richardson is a leather artisan of the highest order. Absolute 100% custom-made Indy gear with unparalleled attention to detail and craftsmanship that is second to none. My new LC gear is exactly what I’ve wanted for years, and it cannot be more perfect. This is definitely final gear for me! For the genuine Indy look, you can’t go wrong when you Make It Jones!

David at Makeitjones has a nice one, and will be happy to confirm the look you want.
As Scott mentioned, Todd has a great Raiders buckle too. I retrofitted both of my straps with it.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate it. By the way, which buckle for the gun belt?; option 1, 2 or 3? Always for SOC look. Thanks again!

David concurs that his #3 buckle is the most Raiders SA.Duck9000 wrote:Thank you guys, I really appreciate it. By the way, which buckle for the gun belt?; option 1, 2 or 3? Always for SOC look. Thanks again!
The #1 is a close second, is noticeably thicker, and is a great interpretation in my opinion. It just looks rugged. Not to mention, the #1 matches the metal keeper perfectly.
The #2 looks great too, but is too circular.

The Raiders buckle is nice but too shiny, pristine. If these were intentionally made rustic, then we might be well on our way, but we're splitting hairs.

Re: Make It Jones Review
I think some where between the makeitjones buckle and todds buckle would be perfect. I like the way todds buckle is dulled and beat up but I think the actual buckle is to thick. The make it jones buckle has the shape imo but way to shinny. That being said it isnt a big deal to dull down the shinny metal to get that perfect buckle.

If you haven't yet, pick up an original WWII bag from Todd's and pair it with a MIJ strap. Best money I've spent lately!

Just for comparison here's the makeitjones Raiders buckle shown pristine and dulled after a rub over with wire wool - rather liking the look of that myself.
Re: Make It Jones Review
Looks great I might have to do that my a self. Its still got a bit of shine but dulled which I like and I think is more accuratemakeitjones wrote:

Re: Make It Jones Review
Good gear. Only problem I had was my bag strap "bled" onto the back of my MBA LC shirt.

Re: Make It Jones Review
Been there. NOT fun! Several years ago, a strap literally bled red dye all over the back of one of my M.B.A. Raiders shirts during a mid-summer hike in the mountains. That's how 95-degree southern humidity affects a cheaply-made leather strap. Needless to say, I threw it away soon after the incident. Now, I'm very careful about wearing my remaining Noel Howard shirts. Sometimes you learn the hard way.

Re: Make It Jones Review
I've never had one that wouldn't bleed. (Except some of the cheaper ones, ironically). All of the straps I've ever got I gave a hot water bath and wiped them down until the dye was no longer seen on the rag...

Re: Make It Jones Review
After reading the reviews on MakeItJones I decided to upgrade my whip holder and I'm glad I did. The item was shipped soon after I ordered it and I couldn't be happier with the look and feel. Now I have to go back and maybe order some more things from MakeItJones.
Re: Make It Jones Review
My new custom LC holster went out yesterday, completing my Last Crusade leather gear kit! Pics will follow upon arrival, along with a good review, naturally.
Re: Make It Jones Review
Really love the stuff he makes. Now that I've finished my raiders costume I want to do a LC and buy his LC belts/straps. But I've been hesitant to start buying stuff because no one makes a good off the shelf LC jacket and I'm afraid to order a custom one from wested. So unfortunately I may have to wait to order the LC stuff from him until I can figure out the jacket.
Any way I did buy a nice sandbag from MakeitJones to accompany my new idol I bought from the RPF.

Re: Make It Jones Review
Thinking about using Make it Jones to get some of my belts, bag straps, buckles, whip holder, holster...how easy is it to order online. Their selection/website looks a little confusing & add to that I am in USA and he is in......England?
Thoughts.
