My first Indy Jacket, A Wested from Indydawg.

Post by fedoralover »

This is one of the few times I actually have something to say in the Jacket forum as I'm mostly into the fedora's, but I just did a trade with Indydawg and got a Wested distressed cow Raiders jacket and when I opened the box all I could say was "WOW!!" I had to pick it up at the Post Office and a young guy wearing a leather jacket was standing in back of me. I told him I was there to pick up an authentic IJ jacket and would he like to see it, he was pretty excited about being able to see one. But not as happy as I was. This jacket will be be even more distressed in short order as it will be my jacket of choice when I leave the house. If anyone is thinking about getting the predistressed cow I can say it really looks fantastic. I was a bit leary as most predistressed leathers I've seen just looked too fake, but this one exceeded my expectations. It is the most authentic looking predistressed leather I've ever seen. It fits like a glove, I doubt if I could have ordered one from Wested and had it fit better. Many thanks to you Indydawg, you really made my day.

As well as I know Dawg keeps his coats, you've got a great jacket there. Congratulations.

Distressed Cow is great

Post by fedoralover »

Just as a note to others who are trying to decide on what leather to get, Indydawg sent me some leather samples of other choices and I have to say the Predistressed Cow was my favorite. Which is great since it's the one I ended up with. If you're considering this one you won't be disappointed.

Aw shucks, y'all....

Post by Indydawg »

I'm blushing here....

I was just hookin' a guy up with a jacket that I sorely loved, but just didn't wear because it didn't ever quite fit me right and I couldn't see sending her back to England for alterations.

But, I'm glad you like it so much!

Incidentally, those leather samples were given to me by Peter-I also sent exact copies of those samples to Michaelson the very next day after Peter gave 'em to me. So, he has them, too.

But, just because you order the distressed cowhide from Peter doesn't mean you're going to get that dark brown hide. I've seen one recently, Indiana Joe's actually, that was VERY light brown. Almost beige in color all over. So, if you order the distressed cowhide, specify that you want the DARKEST brown distressed cowhide.

And, as always, I like to talk to Peter personally about it. But, that's just my obsessive nature.

And speaking of obsessive behavior....I'm wondering...is anyone around here interested in trading a brand new US Wings G-2 for an Indy jacket???!!!

Later, y'all!

fedoralover, due to Indydawg's outstanding generosity I got a chance to wear this jacket for awhile until mine arrived. It was a great fit and the color is just amazing. I mean, IMHO it looks like what an Indy jacket should look like!

As for my current Wested pre-distressed cowhide, the jacket is quite light. In fact, it's A LOT (when Indydawg saw it) than when it first arrived so that should give you an indication of just how light it was upon removing it from the box. However, some Pecard applications should take of that. I believe your jacket has had a few applications itself!

I wish you many great adventures in your jacket, fedoralover. Cheers!

Thanks IJ, I really love the color of this jacket and of course the "LOOK".
It will also help me to keep my weight down, if I gain anymore it won't fit. I was also amazed at how soft the leather is, being cowhide I was expecting it to be stiffer, but I suppose the distressing caused it to be so soft. I always wanted to have one that was personally made by PETER, so it is an extra treat for me. PETER if you are following this thread, I want to say I really enjoy and appreciate your craftmanship. Indydawg also sent me the french edition of a Lucasfilm magazine with an article of you in it with this particular jacket. Wish I could read french, but the pictures still tell a lot.
The one thing that really surprised me though was the zipper, I mean, I knew that the British drove on the wrong side of the road, but I had no idea you zipped on the wrong side as well. (smile).
