Slight OT - Alden Dress Shoes

Post by JerseyJones »

Well, I loved the 405 so much, I just ordered the Straight Tip Oxford Dress shoe. Anybody here have any experience with Alden's non-Well of Souls stuff ?

Yes, I had to have a pair of smart shoes for Mess nights and so forth, I didn't like the standard shoes that you can get, so I bought a pair of a friend that were REALLY comfortable, he had hardly worn them, he was in the USAAF.
I didn't recognise the maker, but man, were they comfortable and well made, the long hours I have to wear them on a mess night make them worth every penny, I had them for about 2 or three years, and had to get the soles replaced after an 'accident' the cobbler took one look at them and said
'Gee, Alden's, these are one sweet shoe, you don't get shoes much better then these!'

Only relatively recently after getting properly into the 'Indy Gear' thing, did I find out that Aldens also make the famous boot!

So, in summary M'lud, you won't be dissapointed!
Sorry for my long tale.

Not only do I have the Indy 405 but also 3 pair of the Handsewn Leisure moccasins, 1 pair of the Cordvan Tassel Moccasins, 1 pair of the Cordovan Chukka boots and a pair of the Kiltie Wing Tip Tassel.
With the exception of the last pair the Indy boots they are all made of their shell cordovan leather and are the best shoes I have ever owned.
350 -400 for a pair of shoes are a lot but they last a lifetime and the leather looks great.

I just purchsed a pair of Wing Tip Blucher Oxford #966. When they arrive, I'll post photos on The Fedora Lounge.

Ben Silver sells Aldens dress shoes. I unfortunately can only afford to look at their catalogues and drool.

I do have these Alden kip skin jobbies on the right though. Cheers
