Todd's boots for everyday use

I've worn my day to day outdoor boots out and I'm shopping for new ones. Since the price of all the boots I'm looking at are about the same as Todd's boots I was wondering if I should just spring for them. What I'm wondering though is how well they hold up in comparison with an average pair of hiking boots? Are they durable or only recommended for costume purposes?

It may just be a quality control issue but the pair I had seemed very well made and very on par with a pair of everyday boots. But there have been others that owned some that didn't take day to day very well. I'd recommend you get them. Looking at them in hand, you can examine them closer and decide for yourself.

I did have to replace the soles on one of the pairs I have after about 6 months, but that was a couple years ago, and they've held up great since then. Granted, I don't wear them every day, but I've hiked many miles through all sorts of terrain and they are well worth the price.

i have had mine a few years and just had to have the heel fixed , other than that they are holding up well. plus i think the boots they have in stock are suppose to be better built ,then the first ones sold a few years ago , so i'd say get a pair you should be pretty happy with them .

I've worn mine everyday since last December. I had to have them resoled around May, and they are still holding up well. I say get em.

Are Todd's boots steel-toed?
The site mentions steel shank, but doesn't mention steel toes.
Hoping to get these for my new pair of work boots (and for Indy wear on the side)...

That's a negative on the steel toes.

And, FWIW...neither are Aldens! Steel Shank is for support. Steel toe is for protection of another kind! W>

Aw, bummer in a big way... I am required to have steel-toed boots for work and I'm trying to find the least-expensive 'close-enough' Indy boot since my employer contributes $80/year toward my workboots and I'm currently due for my new pair.
Thanks for the educated input - I'll keep looking...

I bought a pair just before ny comic con....I wore them the whole day from about 6:30am till about 5pm. They held up great...a few scuffs here and there but that just adds character....I will say after walking in them all day my feet were hurting pretty bad. Theres basically no cushion in the sole of the shoe. Your feet are basically sitting on a big slab of hard leather. Would recommend getting some shoe inserts for these. But other then that they held up great and they look awesome.

I've worn my Todds boots nearly all the time I have gone out. They have been to China, Russia, France, Germany, Italy and the US and are still fine.
A few things which have let me down:
- laces snapped (easily fixed with a new set)
- an eye loop broke (now used as a hole)
- soles and heels wear (replaced with a much tougher pair at local cobblers)
I say, go for it! You won't regret it!

You do have to wear them to loosen them up a bit. The leather starts out pretty stiff. First thing I did with mine was change the laces and put some cushioned inserts into them. They are fine now!

So, you're saying once you completely rebuilt them with tougher components, they were fine?

Those things always wear on a good shoe, (unless the sole is one of timberlands, those soles are like granite!)
They lasted a good year before the heels needed replacing, and a good half a year before the laces snapped.
The only REALLY poor part of the boot is the eyelet -> they are very thin.

Yeah! Once I bought a pair of Alden's there were fine!
I originally bought a pair of first run boots, and they held up just fine. Of course I didn't use them as a normal pair of work boots either. Wilby has them now.

I have a pair of Todd's 2nd gen boots and I feel they've held up just fine in regular, if not daily, use. My biggest gripe about them is the soles and heels are prone to getting small chips in them. I heard of others breaking their hooks, but I still have all of mine. I get regular compliments on them and would have no problem recommending them to others.

A good friend used Todd's boots for everyday use and had issues with the sole...chips (as noted) and ultimately replaced the sole.
