Hate to send you in that direction, but considering his age and price range, you may want to take a hard look at a wool Dorfman Pacific Indy fedora.

Not anywhere near correct in detailing, or anything near high in quality, but for a youngster starting out and just needing a costume type piece that won't just fall apart, the DP should serve the purpose. I believe they have the size you need too.

Do a Google search for the best deal. There are a LOT of dealers who handle this hat.

Regards! Michaelson

:M: ,
You are the Knower of Things.
Icemanfred, welcome to the midst. The Dorfman Pacific is a great route to go. A good starter hat. I would have loved to have had this hat back in 1980 if I was a youngster (I was 15 at the time). It would be a nice hat to wear and play in. I would have been running away from rolling boulders, Hovitos and Nazis all day long.
..... wait a minute ....... come to think of it :-k ......... I did that anyway :[ ...... Good thing I lived in the country.

I agree with my esteemed colleagues.

Another avenue to check is camping/outdoor stores like Cabelas or Bass Pro. They usually have felt fedoras in their offerings that would likely hold up to more abuse than a DP would and sometimes look more accurate to an Indy fedora than some of the licensed versions.

My Indy hat for some 15 years was a brown LLBean wool fedora.

Indiana Jeff

If you have a Burlington Coat factory, you canget reasonable facimile for ~15 bucks, when they have them...

Also, check Ebay, thrift shops etc, you can sometimes get great deals on close enoughs.

What size does he wear, maybe someone around here has something they can pass off.
(Tape measure around widest part of crown, measure in cm's.)

Why don't you try a Todd's costumes Indy fedora for kids. May not be the best but I suggest that if you take the hat and reshape it the right way according to the movies. You know the pinch, the line down the top of the crown, you know like the movies. And if you get it, replace the ribbon with a dark brown (like at the edge of black but still brown) ribbon. :TOH:

Oops I didn't see the part that said "he's an adult small"! Sorry about that. Hate to put you in this direction but how about the Todd's costumes 'Coyle's Downtowner Indy fedora'? it is expensive but if you want a decent, authentic, very close to the real thing fedora like Indy's, I'd say this is pretty close. :TOH:

Actually, come to think of it..... I agree with the guy up there that said to get a Dorfman Pacific. But I think that you should get a regular fur felt from that company. I say that because it is more accurate to the real hat. But I will give you a suggestion for it: if you do decide to get it, make sure it is brown, and change the ribbon to deep dark brown. And reblock it two the line down the top of the crown. If you want an accurate Indy hat... and you get a Dorfman pacific, there are plenty of things to do. :P

The person stated its for a kid and at that price it is very limited to what you can get. Get the DP and that good enough. Getting the DP re block and ribbon isn't cost effective. I'm assuming its for a little kid and they won't really know or care.
