How to add sweat/salt stains to fedora?

I am in the process of distressing some of my gear and and am wanting to add some salt stains to the ribbon of my hat. I have some Fullers Earth, but it appears to be too light. I am thinking of some of the screen shots I have seen in Raiders where Indy has pronounced salt stains on his hat. I have tried the old fashioned way of just wearing it in the sun, but alas. I did search this forum and found an article that mentioned mineral oil but no results as to if that works? Baby powder? Salt water and sun?
Help?

Salt is a no, no on felt. Salt and sun and you asking for trouble. Add sea water or salt and you might just throw it away.
There is a way but I forget the mixture to artificially replicate sweat stands more then fillers earth.

Trust John. He knows what salt can do to a hat.

I'm always cleaning my hat, especially after wearing it on hot sunny days. The sweat stains soon become pronounced after a little exercise /activity.
Wear the hat...hard. It'll soon have the look you're after.
