now, i am not saying i condone this, i am just passing on some info.
from another forum i go to about a totally different subject, one of the guys there has a friend that broke into the prop truck when they were filming in california and stole a jacket...but it was a vinyl indy jacket.
hmmm, i wonder what its worth?
...and vinyl???

I'd say it's worth about what he paid for it, which is zilch, because I highly, highly doubt this story. This is the first that this has ever come up in all these years, so I'm wagering it's a bunch of baloney.
Could you post a link to the different board's thread?
Not to rain on anyone's parade or anything...this is just my opinion on a very, very interesting thread.
Cheers,

i don't doubt the validity of the story. i'll go find the post and PM the guy for more info...i just don't want him to think i am trying to turn the guy in or anything. i would like more info. this forum is about BMWs and it was a casual statement and not like he was bragging. i am quite sure there are props used in films for various reasons and maybe there were some vinyl jackets made for whatever reason. i'll see if i can track the guy down and get more info...maybe even pics.

here is the guy's post...
"I went to high school with a guy that once broke into the prop trailer and liberated a real Indiana Jones jacket when they were filming the motorcycle chase scenes in Indiana Jones III (which were filmed near our school in Marin, CA). The jacket has the prop master's tag and everything. It's vinyl. He said they had a bunch of them in the trailer and they were all vinyl. Go figure."

Maybe it was the dry cleaners delivery truck. Honest mistake.

I just watched the motorcycle chase sequence in LC again, and there is a lot of doubt in my mind as to whether any of those jackets are vinyl.
I believe you Billy, but this "guy had a friend in high school" who no doubt has since fallen off the face of the earth.
BUT, I will defer to the experts here, which I am not, and there could be some validity to the claim, but I still have my doubts.
Cheers,
Cassidy

Isn't that always the way. A 'friend of a friend' always does the most interesting things

hey, i am just reporting what i read!!!
although, i wouldn't doubt the use of vinyl and i would like to know if a vinyl jacket was indeed used at all.

i would usually agree but in this case i really don't think the guy lied...he has no reason to. heck, its a BMW forum and the statement was so random. i just mentioned that i ordered an indy jacket and this guy posted about something that happened.

Oh, you weren't offended? Ok, 'your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberries!' Did that help?

My father does smell like elderberries, and now I'm offended.

Here's another possibility. The lambskin used for the jackets is so thin and shiny that someone who is not familiar with it might mistake it for vinyl. How many people have bought the lambskin jacket and mentioned how thin it is and how shiny the finish looks? If the story is true, the guy could have a leather jacket and not know it. It would be interesting to see pictures of this jacket.
