Replacing lining on a Wested LC Lamb

Post by Kearby »

Hey everybody,

I've had my Wested LC Lamb for about five years now. The leather has held up remarkably well, through multiple snowy Eastern Washington winters and a summer in Morocco's Atlas Mountains. The cotton back and satin sleeves, on the other hand, have not fared so well. The fabric of the lining of both elbows has torn, and a number of spots have frayed in the lining around each cuff. These problems started developing a while ago, and now I've also somehow worn a hole through the cotton back near the bottom.

Since I'm not exactly in the position to run out and buy a new jacket, I was hoping maybe y'all could give me some advice about replacing the lining. Has anyone else tried this, either at home or with a tailor? I'm hesitant to try it, but I feel like if it weren't for the liner I could easily wear it for another five or ten years.

Cheers,
Kearby

I'm curious about this too. I assume the tailor would have to take special care to use the existing holes in the leather where the lining is stitched to it.

Be sure to ask the tailor specifically about working with leather. Most will not take the job if they aren't used to leather, but best to ask.

My local taylor quoted me $120 to replace the liner on my Wested. It's sitting in the closet right now until I find a cheaper alternative.
Actually, I've been wearing my cheaper alternative. An old US Wings lamb I bought way before my wested ;)
