Hey I'm new to Indy Gear, but I've been collecting sence my first Denem leather jacket, cowboyhat fedora and ducttaped rope whip... I even got a cheap whip once for christmas in 3rd grade, but after about 4000 cracks, 300 succesfull branch swings, and countless time-outs, It..... unravelled...

*long sorrowful pause*

Anyway... does anyone know the cheapest place for whips (that isn't Ebay)?

From your local "shop of the red lights" you´ll find magnificent, superb, wonderfull, absolutely piece of art whip which they may even advertise "genuine Indiana Jones Whip"...!

Do you want a cheap whip? Or a good whip for a fair price? If you are looking for a great whip and a great price, go with a budget Indy from EC whips.

Welcome to Indy Gear and Club Obi Wan. Most (90% or so) are serious collectors/gear heads looking for authenticity - not something cheap. Sure, we're all on a budget and a good kangaroo bullwhip, especially a David Morgan is quite costly. Many choose a whip in the 8 to 10 foot range. I don't recommend a 10 until you already have an 8. You will get more enjoyment out of it.

Cheap anything just doesn't go unless you want to run cows around the pasture or chase dogs from your yard. Cheap is as cheap does. Get a good whip.

To be a good gear head, study the Indy movies (buy the DVD set that just came out) and notice the bullwhip he uses. The other forums on here focus on the fedora, jacket, bag, pistol, pants, shoes, shirt, etc., etc.

That is, don't rush out and buy the cheapest whip right away. Take your time, do your homework and save yor nickels, dimes and quarters and then you could afford a nice bullwhip. You will also be very proud of that and others will be in awe of such a magnificent whip.

I completely agree with Duke, I've been reading posts in the forum for months, and I still don't have a single piece of Indygear, but I know my jacket specs now, I know that I'm going for a budget Indy 10' ECWhips, I know I'm going for a fed deluxe etc. And after christmas, I will finally have the funds to begin my collection. It is a long way to go...

I've currently got a 8ft EC whip on order, that my parents are giving me for christmas, and hopefully it will be here before christmas. I'v not actually cracked one before, but I've cracked both David morgan(it was awsome ) and Joe strain, which were great as well. i forget what range the strain's are in, but they're somewhere between EC and DM. I'd say look into either a Joe or an EC.

38 dollars for a decent whip at Lonetree Tack--I don't know whips but this one seems to work pretty well and is reasonably constructed. The above price is their nylon, mind you---leather is about 70 bucks.

I actually own the brownish whip that's on loneetrack's whips page. It looks nothing like in the movies, but it's really easy to crack.
The thing I don't like about it is the stiffness in the handle and a little part above it. You can't coil it up nicely as seen in the movies. This problem might have been caused by my whip being a rather small one (I guess it is 6 feet).

Had I bought a whip for myself, I wouldn't have gotten this one, but saved my money for a better one. The person who gave me this whip wanted to give it to me for free, but I sent here a few books in return. (mailing the package was more expensive than the books, #### Dutch postal services :evil: )

Yes, I noticed the stiffness in the handle, a few inches past it, as well. I got the 8 foot nylon, and like you said, it's REAL easy to crack but looks nothing like the movies. If you are going for a nice coil, I'd say 8ft plus, more like 10 feet is best.

However, for the price ya can't complain tooooo much!

The whips were close to the fedoras at disney it had one crakcer but do not buy one. My whip has started falling apart.

Like Zeus Cow, I'm new to the site, and like everyone else my funds are not great.

But I reeeeaaaallly want a whip!

I had no idea that the slide on type of Whip Holders were so inexpensive. That's great news. I can't wait to get a whip now!

BTW--I noticed that Adventure Supply sells whips, too. How's the quality? Would anyone recommend their whips? For 90 bucks, that's not too shabby on my budget.

I wouldn't so much say that totally about eBay. Just 99% is bad. You have to know what to look for. That is you have to recognize a quality whip on there.
If you have a bullwhip knowledgeable friend on here or elsewhere, they could perhaps assist you in determining the quality of a certain whip on eBay.

Where in New Jersey are you from?

I'm in North Jersey--Bergen County, about ten minutes from the George Washington Bridge.

The cool thing about the area is that it is the birthplace of the "Cliffhanger". They used to shoot the old Silent Movie Serials on the Palisades in Fort Lee--people hanging off cliffs and all that. The term was actually coined about the Fort Lee Palisades.

Not at all: you can get some real bargains on there. But watch out - most of the stuff is costume prop quality and, in general, you're better off learning as much as you can about whips before even thinking about placing a bid; and then asking the seller lots of questions - especially about the way in which the whip is made. If they can't tell you about the core and belly of the whip, don't go there. Plus, some of the people selling whips on Ebay don't know the quality of their product (or don't care) and make outrageous claims. Two of my favourites are 'best whip on ebay', and 'used by German tiger trainers'. Regarding the first quote: who says? Regarding the second quote: ? Why German?? Why tigers?!?! Just.... why!?!?!?

The other thing is to set your budget. 'Cheap' doesn't have to mean 'poor value', it can mean simply 'not as good as more expensive'. At the end of the day, you decide what you want from your whip, you do your homework to find out if you can afford that and, if you can't, you decide whether to start saving or make a compromise now and buy exactly what you want later on.

So play the auction game, by all means, especially is money is an issue. But don't start bidding until you know what you're looking for - find out what makes a whip good, or what would be a good whip for what you can afford - and be prepared to hold out until it comes along.

What town are you in? I'm in River Vale. Sounds like we're probably not more than 10 or 15 minutes from each other.
