I have several David Morgan whips and crack them every day. They are responsive and easy to crack. I do find I like my 8 and 6 foot whips better than a 10 or a 12. Morgan whips are made to last 20 years of everyday use. I have only had one split and lost about 5 inches off the end. Mr. Morgan fixed it and now it is as good as ever, just a little shorter. I crack on the grass and there is very little wear on the whips from daily use.
I also have a Paul Stenhouse 8 footer. I would honestly say it is of equal quality to my Morgans. At ½ the cost a lot of people say the Morgan whip is not worth the extra $, I disagree. The Morgans are the whips actually used in all the Indiana Jones films. David Morgan is the man who adapted the Australian bullwhip and created the American bullwhip recreated around the world today. A Morgan bullwhip is like the Colt Peacemaker pistol. There are many imitators but the Colt is the original and people will always pay more for one. Others say the handle is an inch or two shorter on the modern Morgans than they were in the films. To me that doesn’t matter, a Morgan is a Morgan.
Then there is the age factor, others may not like to talk about it but Mr. Morgan is in his mid 70’s. Whip making is a very physical activity, which takes a lot of strength to stretch the plats tight. I have never bought a Morgan because I thought he was going to quit making them or I thought the value is going to go up after he quits making them, but others have.
Good luck with getting a whip, be careful with it at first, let us know what you get. However, remember the ancient Chinese proverb when you do, “By quality, cry once.” While the quality whips cost more they are long term commitments. I see many posts here by people who bought a cheep whip and were dissatisfied.
Here's a pic of one of my DM's, this one has the correct handle length like the ones in the films did. DM no longer makes them this way and refuses to do so. He flat out turned down my order when I asked him. I was lucky to get this one from a private collector.
