Wested LC revisited

I think most of you will have seen my previous Wested LC jacket, I love it and it ticked most of the boxes… bar one thing… I made it too darn short! It looks ok in pics but it isn't quite right… for one it's impossible to use the handwarmers!

Image

So I went back to Peter and had another go, I picked out one of their worn look cowhides, this is the lightweight one and used the previous jacket as a sizing guide.

Very happy with this, and no need for me to look any further, this is my LC cheers Peter!

Straight out of the shop… next time you see it…. it will be distressed!

Huhahahaaaa!

Proper nice work! :TOH:

Great looking jacket KT!

Is the hide the one which is simply labelled 'pre-distressed' hide on the Wested website? Looks nicely aged after the distressing work you've done.

Did you ask for a lot of custom specs when you ordered, or is it a standard LC?

Cheers,

Jon

Hi, this leather is the 'Antique Lambtouch Hide' ie it's a cowhide.

eg: http://www.wested.com/new-last-crusade- ... -580-p.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My jacket has quite a few spec differences to the standard OTR CS/LC that Wested usually makes.

Thanks for clarifying KT.

The hide looks much nicer in your photos than it does on the Wested website. I've been planning on getting an Indy jacket made in the pre-distressed hide (after seeing Zoltar's LC in another thread), but the Antique Lambtouch on your jacket looks great too.

Decisions, decisions... :-k

Cheers,

Jon

I like the placement of the collar stand on the storm flap. And good work on your collar stand spec, KT.

I have a great fondness for the LC jacket, KT, and I really like your first one. Too bad it was a bit too short by an inch or two..?

Yes, it was about an inch and a half too short. It sits just below the waist, looks ok but really too short for day to day wear.

This new jacket's leather is cool, the colour seems to warm up with stronger sunlight... weird!

Hmm.. I can feel a new purchase occurring.
Is it very heavy?

Actually, KT, I LIKE the length. Makes it a 'true' jacket rather than a coat. Works!

I've always been a fan of that particular leather too. I remember when Peter first came out with it. It's a great material and weight.

I like your jacket a lot! :M:

Considering the way that some denim jackets are cut for women, mid-back these days, this isn't short at all... Imagine that style on an Indy jacket? :Dietrich:

Watch some more 1930's/40's movies and serials. That was a normal length for mens jackets too. Men's trousers had a much higher rise than worn these days and the jackets were cut accordingly.

This is, to my eye, definitely a tip of the hat to a true 1930's jacket cut, length wise.

Thanks Michaelson. It did end up feeling seriously short with modern jeans too!

PD it's not heavy, the 'lambtouch' part means it is a lighter weight leather. It's kinda like the antiqued cowhide but thinned down about 50%.

And TS... thanks for the ladies jacket imagery... I think :)

No, all kidding aside, M is right. A-2's and other jackets were shorter back then.

KT - nice LC. Great pockets. Love the new length. Real 1930's length doesn't do it for me nor does it suit all that many looks these days IMO.

Kt, how did you get a Leather Concessionaires label in your new LC jacket? I asked if they could install one in my CS when I sent it back to Wested for a new lining earlier this year, but Gemma replied that they're only allowed to use the Leather Concessionaires label in the Raiders hero jackets. :?

You have to ask Peter. NOT Gemma! I have had those labels offered to me in any jacket I wanted.

That Wested leather really is fantastic, having held it in my hands when last at the barn. If I was after another Indy jacket I'd be looking at an LC in that.

Eh, it's okay. When I received the jacket back, it had that hideous giant sparkly Wested label (the Elvis label, I call it), so I removed it and sewed in the original label from my circa 1998 Raiders jacket. Simple and elegant.

Yeah, I'm not keen on the glittery Wested labels either. I think they had to order from a new supplier as the old one went under. Something got lost in translation!!

Definitely a case of 'less is more'. In the future, they should offer the choice of brand label as an ordering option.

Kt,

Just curious, what is the measurement on the collar at the middle center and near the ends, and is it different that the jacket first posted?

I think the repro early '90s jackets started this, but something about cowhide and a LC jacket just goes together, eh....even though we know it was lambskin...? :P

...time to duck and roll.... :CR:

Re: Wested LC revisited

Actually, you're right: the cowhide does look better than the lambskin, screen-accuracy notwithstanding. Plus, it's the leather that Indy's jacket probably would have been made of in real life (either cow or horsehide). But the predistressed look is essential to capturing the true Indy vibe, otherwise it's just another leather jacket.

Something about that dusty, Novapelle-ish kinda thing and texture of the leather that sends it over the edge. ;)

To me it has been about this third photo fro mthe top:

http://indygear.com/igjacket-LC.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I suspect that it is the absence of a couple of things at work here. If you had veg tanned, thick lamb/sheep skin, coupled with a natural looking, ie warm brown dye color, distressed, I bet this would be the x-factor?

Re: Wested LC revisited

Posted: Thu Sep 06, 2012 8:40 pm
by whipwarrior
Yep, that's the one. When I got my novapelle CS/LC in '08, it was perfect straight out of the bag. Looked like it had already seen a million dusty miles before I ever put it on. The only thing I did was highlight some of the edges and seams with steel wool and soak it in Pecards. Now it's perfect. Definitely the final jacket for this Indy fan! :TOH:

I think the lambskin US Wings used for the Legend would be perfect for a LC jacket if it weren't striated that is. My Legend has the same thickness to it that the LC jacket does, at least to my eyes. In fact, now that I think about it, it looks almost like a cross between a Raders and an LC jacket too. The color and texture of the hide is Raiders, but the weight of the skin and the overall bagginess is more in line with an LC.

Hey, check out what I just found at YouTube, an early 1990's TV commercial for a licensed Indiana Jones jacket. The details are surprisingly accurate!

You think so, Dale? It was a subcontracted USW jacket, made by Schott. One of the early ones, and as I recall the same pattern they used for the early Disney jackets.

Has those back to front straps and zip facings. I can't remember the last thread that popped up in! :)

Front to back pull side straps. You can see them clearly at the 1 minute mark on the video. You can also clearly see those gosh awful bright shiney brass D rings. ;)

No doubt zip facings yes. That's the only way Schott has ever made them, with the exception of a few of the Legend offerings.

$32.06 for the rest of your life...er....about $256. The price has been kept relatively constant since then. Yeah, the straps fasten buckle to the sides. Check out those flaps, KT.... :-k .....I'm afraid your new jacket simply is not accurate at all... :P That is one thing that has been consistent over the years is the sizing. If you could just get one to fit right... #-o

KT nice jacket, looks great! I've really been thinking of trying the lamb touch, your pics sold me on it. I am kind of hesitant of asking wested for a bunch of specs though to nail down the LC look, I wish they just had OTR ones that looked like that, it would save a lot of trouble.

But yes, ask Peter.

This jacket sure warms up, color-wise under the sun? Did you treat it with Picard, or some other type of lotion? What measurement did you go with for the infamous storm flap? One little detail per film that you nailed is the top of the storm flap. Yours is squared off, whereas others are typically made sloping downward toward the edge. ;)

Yup, no lotion or any leather dressing at all so far. Just water and scrubbing. That is just a standar storm flap. I stepped back from the wider one I did last time... I didn't seem necessary.
