what do you gents think of this for a backpack: have Wade make one of his leather MKVII but make it 3 times bigger & add some straps to go over the shoulder?
Thanx!!!

The P-37 webbing of the British and Canadian army during WW2 essentially had this - a larger MkVII gas bag as a haversack. You attach straps to go over your shoulders and you can also attach other webbing bits too.

Instead of making shoulder straps for it, how about designing it with D-Rings on the bottom that you can use to convert it to a backpack?

Ah, yes, like a Saddleback bag that can be carried messenger style or the strap can be threaded through rings to make a backpack.

I have been doing some rough guesstimating in my head & tripling all three measurements (height, width, depth) isn't going to cut it. The pack would be between 30 to 33 inches tall! Maybe make the bag 20 inches tall, 6-8 inches deep, 16 inches wide. What do you gentlemen think of that?
Thanx!!!

I would say more along the lines of 18" height and 12" width with 6" depth. That is roughly the dimensions of an LL Bean Continental rucksack. I have one and it is as large as I'd want to go with a backpack for daily use.

I have a couple British Military WWII - era Rucksacks:

One is my laptop pack for work, and one is my fishing pack. They're pretty simple and very tough (heavy canvas). The site shows them out of stock for the time being, but they get one or two in here and there.

I once saw a messenger bag which can be converted to a back pack by clipping the strap to the middle. It was slightly bigger than an Indy bag and was military green in color.
