The Wild West Arts Club Convention is scheduled for 1-4 March 2004 in Las Vegas at the Tropicana Hotel. I went last year and had a hoot. Not much Indy stuff but plenty of whip cracking. I also met Sergei and Paul Nolan. I'm planning to go again, and was wondering if anyone also planning to go.

Hey Major Mike,
I am planning on going. Almost went last year but had to back out the week before. I am probibly going to Dalas first. Mike Murphy is coming and is doing a few days with the Dallas whip club. (as far as I know)

I talked with Joe Strain yesterday and he said he is trying to work it out so he can go again this year.
I can't wait. I've been a whip cracker from way back and really look forward to learinig some new stuff.

All the best,
Chris

I hope to go. Last year was the first time I missed in about 7 years. I am a Life Member of the WWAC and definitely hang out around the whip arena more than anywhere else. During the last convention I was hired by Six Flags - Astroworld to work at their theme park doing whipcracking and rope tricks for 16 days which ran thru the WWAC convention. I was very blessed to have Joyce Rice and her daughter Andrea Renee there also. They are usually always at the convention also but were booked at Six Flags Astroworld at the same time. Joyce RIce is often imitated but rarely copied in her whipcracking.

Every year I've gone, Joe Strain has been there.

Two years ago Mike Murphy was there.
That year I competed against him and the 7-time Australian whipcracking champion, Fiona Wilkes. None of us could best her, but she did tip her hat to me, saying, "He's a good cracker". I was hoping to put the fear in her and beat her, but she's too good. What made it worse for me was that I had to follow her...haha
I met Sergei that same year and mentioned the great benefits of a WWAC Life Membership ...and now he is one also

There are whipcrackers from all over the world...Germans, Aussies, and believe it or not a bunch from Czechoslovakia. They are an enthusiastic bunch for sure.

Count on seeing a few whipmakers there and some very good whipcrackers.

I always have a blast and enjoy the camaraderie of the folks there.

PYRO:
The one in Dallas with Mike Murphy, if he is still coming, will be the immediate following weekend, which would be March 5, 6 & 7. I am not sure of his schedule. He may onlyshow one of those days. He likes to hunt and may spend a day hunting before coming to Dallas. As you know they aren't allowed firearms in Oz.

I've been asked to make a few bullwhips for some at the convention. Look me up if you are coming.

I hope to be there and meet many of you there also. Bring your feds and Indy gear too!

Last time I was there was the 2001 convention and had a great time. I'm hoping to go again this year. Maybe someone's looking to split on a room to cut down on costs? I did that at the last one I attended. THere were 3 of us in a room which cut the hotel expense down to almost nothing.

Jim,
My wife said to me, "Why don't you find someone to split the room with you.?"

I'm all for sharing the room. If you like we can make plans as the date gets closer.

All the best,
C

I was talking with Sebastian on Saturday and I thought he said he'd be here the first weekend of March right before the WWAC, but maybe he meant the weekend after. He did say Mike Murphy would be coming out to our practice. We have Whip practice this Sunday and if I can remember I'll ask Seb for a specific date and report back. Canasta, it'd be great to have you down our way...I look forward to meeting you. Pyro, hope you can make it too! Now if we could get Sergei out here to TX too. [/quote]

Holly, The first weekend of March is After the WWAC. If he came the weekend before WWAC it would be Feb 28 & 29 (Leap Year added extra day)
