When it comes to Stetson, it's anyones guess who their supplier was at any given time the 'TofD' version was made, other than the contracted LucasFilm hats made for Stetson in Austria for sale in the theater lobbies that were produced but never sold in that venue. Those hats have provenance and some identifying marks that separate them from the group.

They may have been still using Cury at the time yours was made, but TofD came out 3 years before in 1984. They put out bid contracts for felt every year to get lowest bidder for their annual felt supply for this level hat, so unless you could get hold of a copy of that years successful bidder, it's going to be hard to prove one way or the other.

That's the problem with Stetson hats. They are all over the map when it comes to their suppliers. :(

I about died. The hat maker and wearer in me cried a little at the prospect.

Then I saw this

No offense meant to Indiana Greg, but my fear was somebody would eventually write a post along the lines of "OK, I sliced my hat open, what am I looking for?" making reference to my post.

Indiana Jeff

Does Stetson still make those official Indy hats? Or is the license now exclusively owned by Dorfman?

I wish they still have 'em... My wife is working with Hatco and could probably get me one if they still produced it.

No Stetson has long lost the license to DP. They still make the same hat, it's called The Temple. It just doesn't have the pin or the lining.

I had one for a while, nice enough for a dress lid, but it was a modern Stetson that just couldn't keep up with the quality and looks of my vintage and custom hats, so I ended up selling it:

Well, mine was like a 2008 or so Stetson. But I meant modern in terms of proportions and the taper in the crown. My vintage hats have tall, straight sided crowns not unlikethe Indy hat.

I hope hatco still has some of the old Indy hat liners... I'll ask my wife to procure a few when she goes there next week. Who knows? They still might have some lying around in the factory...

Good luck with that, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yeah, it's very unlikely... I'd be happy just to have new hat liners, doesn't matter if it has an Indy logo or not, as all my hats are now liner-less!
