I've got a fed that's just a bit too big for me (two sizes, to be exact; it's a 61 and I wear a 59/60), and I was wondering if the lampshade method would be able to correct this. If it can't, then I have a friend with a 61 inch head who would be delighted to take it off my hands, but I'd rather it not come to that.
Could someone post a step by step walkthrough for shrinking my hat? The previous post mentions removing the liner; is this removable liner a feature unique to Federation, or am I just not pulling hard enough?
Thanks,
RJ

Gently wet the inside leather band with a damp rag or sponge. Put a light towel or rag inside the hat to protect the plastic in the liner. Set the hat on top of a lamp with a shade and wait a few minutes. Try the hat on every few minutes to see how it fits. That's pretty much it. It should take the hat down one whole size. You can use the enclosed foam also! Good luck!

I just wet my finger and lightly went around the sweat band on my Akubra, Then I put it on my head for 15 minutes and then repeated the whole process once again. It worked great for a bit of resizing and the hat adapted to my head shape too.
That's just what worked for me, a thing I've tried before when wearing a students cap in a sauna. No further questions...

Well, if you're asking.
Technology students in Sweden wear caps on different occations and from the colour and style of the hat you can tell what you study and on what location.
In order to get the right bash/slouch and not having the flap and tuft stand out like a flag it is common to shower with the hat on and then hit the sauna with the accompaniment of a few beers and buddies.

The result is a beret-style cap of a nice quality, leather sweatband and all.
