UPDATE: Alden 405 Color

Post by junior »

I just talked to someone at the Alden Shop in CA. He is very aware of our awarenesss of the colors offered in the past. He said that two weeks ago they updated their site to show the current color of the 405.

They look alot like that pic of the 1970's Alden - not too red, not too orange and with a little Pecards Brown Cream, it should be just right.

He did say to order a half size less but I'll be going to an orthopedist to get a correct measurement on both feet.

Update: I just called back asking about the tongue. While on the phone someone else told him that this current color has been available since only 6 months ago and that the color will be changing in January

I asked him to what shade? He said he didn't know and that the Maine location will be handed that decision. I am dialing them now.

This has been SOP for Aldens for the past several years. They tend to make changes to the 405 every January. Wonder if the price will increase again? :? Regards. Michaelson

Hmm...that's closer to the color I got. More of a red-brown than orange-brown, especially Post Pecards.

Yeah, I'd say that color is right, understanding monitors vary. Compared to the picture I saw on this screen, they are darker in person.

Not unlike the Energizer Bunny, the sizing issue keeps going and going and going and going...

They run one full size larger. Would that make them European sizing?

Jim at the San Fran AldenShop just confirmed that the new batch of 405's that will begin production in January at the Mass manufacturing facility will be ready to sell by Febuary.

The good news: they have in hand as you read this a swatch of the new hide that will be used. As he held it in his hand I asked him if the color of this batch would be more of a reddish hue or the old orangish hue of brown. He said, "neither, this is the truest pure brown color this model has had in a longtime". :D Woo-Hoo. I guess the requests finally paid off.

The bad news: there is none.

I remember when me, Josh and Holly visited Fritz in LA - he had Holly tryinging on various sizes. Fritz fitted her with a pair. Holly complained a little that it seemed to big, and he positivly refused to sell her a smaller size. He insisted that they are meant to be worn on the large size. So Holly went with it and they look great on her! I am sure she could tell you more.

Thats the same picture they have had on the website forever. Color looks the same as it did a year ago on there!
As for the sizing, I 100% agree, there is no way to tell someone how to size Aldens besides going to the shop!

Indy J

PS The most current color is the dark brown with a little reddish tint, why would they change it again so soon!? Someone post pics if they get the newest color. INDIANAMIKEY - Email me the pics, I can post them for you!! :) Just click the email tab at the bottom of my post -

Yeppers, and to prove me wrong Fritz let me try on the 8.5C, which felt a little short and small on the sides (A 8.5D might have worked). So I ended up going with the 9C, which is the size he recommended. I rarely wear the shoes, and my feet have not yet adjusted and to be honest they aren't the most comfortable shoe on me but they do fit for the most part.

Just received a swatch from the Alden factory in Mass.

The new hide is more brown than the past but it still does have a hue of reddish-orange. Sorta like a rust color with heavy emphasis on brown.

Better than no change at all.

Now, if they'd cut the price in half....... :)

What's funny, I wear a size 11D in any other shoe, and my Aldens are size 11D too, and they fit perfectly.... if I ordered a half-size smaller than normal, they'd be, well, small........ .....

I've been planning to get Aldens for some time now, and am pretty set on getting some very soon. Do you all suggest getting them now, or waiting for thier "new" batch to come in? Junior, you've seen the swatch, what do you think?
Thanks much!

It's about time. I always wondered who the Alden's genius was who decided pumpkin orange and brick red orthopedic boots would sell like hotcakes. Brown is much more palatible, no?
