FLIGHTSUITS' EXPEDITION IN DEER SKIN!

Well I was lucky enough to grab one of these Expeditions before Flightsuits (G&B) no longer sold it in DEER SKIN. This skin has to be the softest out there as you could make a pillow out of it and sleep on it! I believe I acquired it in the late 1990's. It would be nice if G&B or Wested would start offering this skin again.

I had the second one ever made. Problem I had with it was the jacket would literally draw up after being worn for a while, then relax after it cooled. Was really annoying as my sleeves would be halfway up my arms during winter when the jacket warmed up, but fall right back to perfect length when hanging in the closet.
I sent it back for a goatskin. They didn't keep it as an offering very long as it was the most returned hide they offered at the time.
I loved the material...but it was just weird how it behaved.
Regards! Michaelson

I bought one of those off the sale page...might have been the one you returned, M...I eventually sold it to make way for something else, but I recall how breathable the leather was...I wore it in mid-summer in Savannah, Ga on a night out and was comfortable as I could be!
Wish I'd kept it...

Considering my current body shape,, I think it would have actually worked now.

How tough is Deer Skin? And Michaelson - what a strange leather behaviour.

It was my primary jacket that I wore in the late 90's and it looks great with minimal weathering. Its very soft to the touch almost a "peachy" feel. I used it as a pillow when I took it camping with the boy scouts.

Deer skin is extremely...tough...but susceptible to surface scratching. Tensile strength is very high...on par with cow and bison...but, the G&B finish was just easy to scratch...and it's very porous...it absorbed water, but never dried out because of it....
It was just a great leather, if you weren't running through briars.

No problem...and I might clarify...the deerskin did DRY..quite quickly, I might add...
..it just never got all brittle and dried OUT...even after repeated wettings and dryings...and I NEVER treated it with anything.
It was my "sub-tropic" jacket for years until I just decided I didn't really NEED an Indy jacket for the sub-tropics...
Cheers!

It was nice...VERY...As I recall, I sold mine to another fan from here, although I don't recall if it was Indiana Joe or another friend from out in AZ whose handle was West...I'm pretty sure it was West...

I've heard about these deer jackets, cool to actually see one! I'm not a 'multiple Indy jacket' guy. My only jacket was a Wested I got from my Bride in 2000, until US Wings offered the Legend in Bison. The novelty of bison hide is what sold me on the jacket. If one of these in deer ever turns up in my size, I'd be awfully tempted.

Indiana Jeff

If you see one in your size, Jeff, grab it. They didn't make many, or make them for long.
