Today we had family (and the neighborhood kids) over to celebrate our son Logan's 5th birthday, Angry Birds-style. Somehow the subject of Indy and whips came up, and I mentioned the 6-foot whip I'd bought for Logan. I was met with skepticism. I brought it out for them to admire. Then I brought out my 10-foot Crease-n-Corral. They stared at me like I'd grown a second head. I said, "I'm the guy who dresses like Indiana Jones, and dresses his son like Indiana Jones, to go see Raiders of the Lost Ark, and you're surprised I have bullwhips?"

Naturally they wanted to see some whip action. I cracked the little one a bit, then showed them the big gun. My repertoire is quite small (cattleman's, overhead, sidearm), but they were impressed, and several of them wanted to try it themselves. We took it very easy and nobody got hurt.

Using the overhead, I got some seriously epic cracks—and also some practice replacing crackers, as I blew the end of my fall off a couple of times. Fluorescent orange isn't screen-accurate, but it's nice and visible on the ground.
